Tennis may be more "strawberries and cream" than "tattoos and purple drank," but that hasn't diminished the excitement of imprisoned rapper Lil' Wayne for the upcoming U.S. Open.
The multi-platinum rapper, who is currently serving a yearlong prison sentence on weapons violations, is surprisingly a big fan of tennis and recently wrote a mini-preview of the Open for Sports Illustrated. Composed on SI letterhead, which the magazine sent to him, Wayne writes that he fell in love with tennis after playing it and realizing how difficult the sport was. He says his favorite players are Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova and the Williams sisters, and that he remembers Andre Agassi reaching "pop star" status when he was a kid.
For this year's tourney, Wayne likes Rafa to complete the career Slam and Kim Clijsters to defend her title (and that was before Serena withdrew because of her foot injury).
It's not the first time Wayne has shown his affinity for tennis. The New Orleans rapper once used the grunts of Elena Dementieva as the beat to a mixtape track that also included references to Steffi Graf and Roger Federer. (Warning: Clip contains explicit language following the tennis references):
Wayne is scheduled to be released from jail on Nov. 5.
