US Open champion Stan Wawrinka and Alexander Zverev of Germany cruised into the Saint Petersburg Open final on Saturday beating Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain and the Czech Thomas Berdych respectively. Swiss top seed Wawrinka won his first ever meeting with the fourth seeded Bautista Agut 7-6 (10/8), 6-2 in one hour 50 minutes to set up a clash with the German teenager in the final. In the second Wawrinka moved up a gear to race through the set into the final, courtesy of service breaks in the first and seventh games.
Kristina Mladenovic and Caroline Garcia can play for France in the Fed Cup final against the Czech Republic after the French tennis federation lifted their ban on Saturday. The pair had been provisionally suspended for ''damaging'' the federation's image at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, where the players criticized the FTT over a clothing mix-up after their defeat in the first round of the doubles. Mladenovic and Garcia said they were not informed that, as doubles partners, they had to wear the same colors.
Alabama starting tailback Damien Harris left Saturday’s game against Kent State with a leg injury. Harris was injured on his fourth carry of the game and was carted off the field after his leg bent awkwardly on a low tackle. He was ruled out for the rest of the game. Entering Saturday, Harris led the No. 1 Crimson Tide in rushing, with 327 yards and averaging 9.1 yards per carry. He was replaced by freshman Joshua Jacobs, who ran for two touchdowns in the first quarter. Alabama led Kent State 34–0 late in the first half.
