Del Potro stuns Nadal to make first slam final
*Del Potro reaches first grand slam final
*Worst grand slam defeat of Nadal’s career
*’Best moment’ of Del Potro’s life
(adds quotes, detail)

NEW YORK, Sept 13 (Reuters) - Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro bludgeoned Rafael Nadal 6-2 6-2 6-2 at the U.S. Open on Sunday to reach his first grand-slam final.
The sixth seed overpowered the Spaniard in two hours, 20 minutes of outstanding hitting to set up a final against either five-times champion Roger Federer or fourth seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia.
“It’s very difficult for me to speak at this moment. This is my favourite tournament and I can’t believe this moment,” a beaming Del Potro said in a courtside interview.
“I am very close to my dream, to win this tournament. I hope I can do it. I am very happy to be here. Tomorrow I will fight until the final point, if I win or lose, I think this is the best moment of my life.”
Nadal went into the match struggling with a right abdominal injury and his service speed was clearly down, allowing Del Potro to be aggressive on his returns.
The first set was a story of missed opportunities as Nadal squandered three break point chances, while the Argentine broke twice, in the fourth and eighth games.
The pattern was repeated in the second set and though Nadal continued to fight in the third, Del Potro was too strong and cruised to a comprehensive victory.
The scoreline represented the heaviest grand slam defeat of Nadal’s career.
“It was a little bit unlucky year for me,” Nadal said. “I started the year playing really well but that’s sport.
“In Cincinnati (last month) and here, I had a problem with the right abdominal and it was difficult for me to serve.
“But he is playing very well and I am very happy for him.”

In their prime, playing at 100%, Nadal beats Federer more often.

He picks his @#$% because he has problems, dont know whether its a rash or "men" inside but wont get into that. He isnt no gentleman as the definition of that is someone of calm, decisive actions without showboating or emtion outpouring their faces. Nadal does the total opposite of that. Sorry but its unappopriate to pick your @#$% infront of 10000 people.
BigBenBull hwo do you know he isnt using HGH or steriods hmm? you got proof for that? i do. Its called muscle loss/gain in unprecidented ammounts in shorts periods of time. Broadcasters wont say this or comment on it because they are being paid to be virgin to the game and not spoil it like how it was done to baseball. You look at anytime of three month periods or even one month periods and you can see what loss/gain he has is not explained by training. Dont QQ and say its natural it isnt, you dont know jack about the human body. To have that done causes responces which destroy the body. Wanna know if this hapened to nadal? it has. They purposly jack him up for french open and wimboldon. This year they started early with the aussi open and it showed. Nadal lost in barcelona and france to QQ his way back to us open. His cycle was ruined and his body took a toll for it.
You all want nadal to win because you watched tennis from 2002-2007 knowing fed was going to win and EVERYONE KNEW THAT. you all young peole think nadal is the greatest now because he represents anti-establishment which fed has established. You have no logic behind your reasons, no valid arguement nor any statistic to prove nadal is clearly better overall then fed in the game of tennis and not result.
BTW heres a statistic you nadal fands cant achieve.... fed is 126W-0L against players outside the top 10. Dont know nadals but he has around 16 or so. So tell me whos more consistant from that hmm
HMM... ponder and dont QQ because if you do you show your a low person. Bring a valid point to the table and ill discuss.

Men's tennis would be utterly boring if Nadal were not around. He has been gracious and a sportsman after every win and loss, even to the point of apologizing to Federer for beating him. Without his presence in the field, Wimbledon was hardly worth watching this year. You have to admit that he makes the game much more interesting and compelling to watch. Anyone think that Federer wants to see Nadal at the other end of the court in the finals?
