German tennis player Tommy Haas has swine flu

  • Print

FRANKFURT (AP)—Tommy Haas, the 17th-ranked player from Germany, is dealing with a case of swine flu.

“I did a test because I suspected that I had swine flu. The test was positive,” Haas said in Tuesday’s Bild newspaper. “Of course, it was a shock for me.”

Haas told the paper he was already feeling better.

“I’ve calmed down now because although swine flu is a very strong form of flu, you can quickly overcome it when you’re in good physical condition like I am,” Haas said.

The 31-year-old Haas pulled out of a tournament in Stockholm last week after becoming ill. He first thought it was normal flu but decided to get tested.

He also pulled out of this week’s Swiss Indoors and is unlikely to play next week at the Paris Masters.

There are many performance enhancing drugs but I have never heard of swineflu.

Will he be punished by the tennis federation?

I hope it will not be for long. He is very good.

Yes--I love to watch Tommy play---a very scrappy veteran. I esp. love his serve. He doesn't take forever. No drawn out ritual, no bouncing the ball 13 times, no intense staring, etc. He justs throws it up, smacks it, and gets on with the game. Somehow, I admire that. Rest up and get well.

Peter Jochim's lies? aka: doping truths!

Lance Pharmstrong has many drug busted teammates:
Roid Floyd Landis is a CONFIRMED drug cheat and liar. He threatened Greg Lemond too.
Tyler Hamilton: blood doping, hGH, EPO, insulin and post menopause hormones
    Roberto Heras, EPO
    Benoit Joachim, Deca Durabolin
    Manual Beltran, corticosteroids & EPO
Pavel Padrnos, EPO, hGH and insulin
    Ivan Basso, blood doping confession
Frankie Andreu, EPO confession (1999 USPO TDF doped squad)
Stephen Swartz, EPO & steroids at Motorola
Michele Ferrari, convicted of illegal pharmacy and sporting fraud (Lance's dealer)

You cannot make this Pharma cheating stuff up. Nike Lance is dirty!

Post 5, I agree with you completely. Tommy is now 31 and the body recovers slower as we age and the only thing playing in Basel and Paris would do is help him possibly get into the top 16 to improve his chances of avoiding more of the top players at the Australian. No point in taking a chance on a relapse.

mjpopcorn2310, the incident about serena is over. the incident about haas is more serious because it has an effect on everyone around him. He still a pretty good tennis player and wish him all the luck. bringing serena has nothing to do with this matter.

Oh my goodness, another set-back for this wonderful player!! He has had so many over the years with injuries and family tragedies.
I am so sorry he's having to miss the year's end tournaments, but he's taking care of himself, pulling out of tourneys (as he SHOULD) and obviously is going to taken the rest of the year to get well, rest and be completely ready for next season!
I have always liked Tommy and have enjoy watching him play so much! He's a very scrappy fighter one of tennis' great veteran warriors :-)
Take care Tommy, feel better SOON & come back after a long, well deserved rest! See you next year :-)

Get well, Tommy. You'll be missed in the last year-end tournaments. But , health is wealth! Hope you will have a speedy road to recovery. Looking forward to seeing you back in action specially in the coming Australian Open 2010.
