Barcelona to host Davis Cup final
BARCELONA, Spain (AP)—The Davis Cup final between defending champion Spain and the Czech Republic will be played in Barcelona.
The Spanish tennis federation announced on Saturday that the best-of-five series scheduled for Dec. 4-6 will be held on the clay courts at Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi.
The selection was ratified by the International Tennis Federation, which had previously rejected Tenerife in the Canary Islands and the southern port city of Malaga because they were open-air venues. Malaga’s stadium also fell under the minimum seating capacity of 12,000.
Spain won the first of its three Davis Cup titles at the Barcelona venue against Australia in 2000. This is the Czech Republic’s first final since winning the title in 1980. was the site of Spain’s first win in 2000.

It's ironic that after the Australian Open, the men's and women's tours go to South America where, of course, they play on clay. It gets little or no coverage. It's a shame because it breaks up the monotony of playing on hard courts from the North American part of the tour. I would like to see more clay court tournaments played around the world.
Let's face it, grass is only played for three weeks a year, but clay is huge in South America and Europe. We should have more high profile tournaments played on the surface, not only the ones leading up to the French Open.
It's also interesting that all the top men and women players grew up playing on clay. It's also easier on the body, especially the knees.
What are your thoughts?

currently, some of players are simply relying on their own unique playing style from inception to completion, no matter win or lose. as a matter of fact, so important is the classical teachings of Bill Tilden: never change your winning game, always change your losing game. maybe a lot people will laugh at me---old fashion. doesn't matter! the main goal for every player is to win, so, if they can keep ALL IS WELL THAT ENDS WELL in mind, unique style might not be the top priority for any kind of situation. whatever is suitable for her/him to win, just use it. that would be the only way all-round player can do.

I guess the USTA is going to have to groom either some clay court players or more all court players.
