Another famous soccer team is coming to San Jose: Chivas de Guadalajara has scheduled an exhibition Oct. 7 against Liga MX rival Monarcas Morelia, according to Livermore promoters Latin Entertainment. The 8 p.m. kickoff at Avaya Stadium features Chivas, which is considered Mexico's most popular team. Guadalajara is the only club in Liga MX that exclusively uses Mexican players. The Monarcas are from the state of Michoacan with many Bay Area fans. Tickets go on sale Aug. 4 through Ticketmaster at Ticketsvip.net. Guadalajara joins Arsenal FC, Liverpool FC and AC Milan as internationally known teams to play in the South Bay this year along with four Copa America contests.
The Liverpool Football Club has been holding pre-season training session at Stanford University in preparation for two games in the International Champions Cup (ICC) tournament against Chelsea FC at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena on Wednesday night and Italian club AC Milan on Saturday night at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara. But it hasn’t been all work for the soccer club. It’s players and team ambassadors visited Alcatraz Island and took batting practice and watched a San Francisco Giants game. They also held a Special Olympics Soccer Clinic at Bellamarine College Preparatory in San Jose and a Street Soccer soccer clinic at the Tenderloin Children’s Playground in San Francisco.
