* Ankle injury picked up in late Sept. still not healed

OBIDOS, Portugal, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo will miss the two-legged World Cup playoff against Bosnia, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) said in a statement on Tuesday.

Ronaldo has not recovered from an ankle injury and will not play in the game in Lisbon on Saturday and in Zenica four days later.

“After a clinical evaluation, it was concluded that the player does not meet the physical conditions to join the national squad training for the (Bosnia playoff) matches,” the FPF said.

Real Madrid’s world record signing suffered the injury in late September which was aggravated in Portugal’s 3-0 win over Hungary 10 days later and he has not played since.

Real had said earlier on Tuesday that Ronaldo would travel to Portugal to be examined by national team doctors, after complaining about coach Carlos Queiroz’s decision to call him up.

The club said last Friday that Ronaldo needed two more weeks of treatment. Director general Jorge Valdano had said playing him now would be a serious mistake.

Queiroz denied there was a row with Real over whether the winger should play.

“The steps are simple—there is a call up, an evaluation, a decision, and then life goes on,” Queiroz told a news conference.

Ronaldo is d most complete footballer, he dribbles, takes shot, has good pace, good control of d ball, takes free kicks and very intelligent and purposeful in d game. Potugal will certainly qualify witout him but will sure miss him.

Portugal can and WILL win without CR9, seems whenever he is not playing for Portugal, they actually win, the other players DO step up, I think Portugal will qualify for 2010.

Ronaldo is a great player to be sure, but I wouldn't miss him that much if Portugal lose- too much flopping whenever a defender comes near him & too much whining whenever he doesn't get a call. This is the kind of thing that takes away from the beauty of the game.

The world Cup has always been a competion for nations. We want to see the best national teams in South Africa. It will be just unfortunate for some players who play for themselves and not for their teams to miss out when the world's best teams meet to compete.

Ronaldo is an exceptional, awesome player, but he needs to recover. I am sure Portugal is a great team. People put way too many high expectations on these players, Ronaldo is human and he needs to recover. He is a great player, these are great teams, theres always next year. and the year after. and the year after. Good luck to everyone. :)

Ronaldo we all know is a great player. In the absence of him, the national team will feel it but not to that level because they have other world class players. Portugal has many stars. I think they are equall to the task ahead.

Bosnia is no pushover. They can beat Portugal with or without Ronaldo. Without Ronaldo though,Portugal will be a weakened outfit. The remaining players need to work overtime otherwise we are likely to have a world cup without Ronaldo!

Portugal can win without Ronaldo. After their qualification Ronaldo would have the edge to join the term in South Africa. Carlos Queiroz should know that the legend is injured and therefore should not think of calling him into R/M. There are subtitudes who can take the place of Ronaldo.

Im Portuguese and a huge fan of Portugal and Ronaldo but Ronaldo doesn't play well with the National Team. He is always on the gorund and accomplishes nothing. I think Portugal is a better team without him. GO PORTUGAL!!!!!!

I agree with everything that SAKOBHU said. the world cup will not be as fun to watch without the worlds most popular player, Christiano Ronaldo.

Let us talk about football and Ronaldo. Ronaldo is not an ordinary fotball player. At current, he is if not the best, the second best. He has scored in almost every game he played for RM. Only player who could be at the same league is Messi. The world cup will not be the same without Messi and Ronaldo. You need Portugal as much as you need Brazil, Germany, Italy and Aggentina in World Cup.So for the sake of footbal art lets hope that even if Ronado does not play, Portugal qualifies.

Well, I'm no fan of Ronaldo, but I will say that the WC will suck w/o him crying and whining to refs. Unless Nani steps up Big time, (and he hasn't in Manure United) , Portugal will miss the WC. Oh well, Bosnia is a good team, and I think they'll win both matches.

For my idea, the club should not used the player who is injured. Portugal team can win over Bosnia without
    Cristano Ronaldo in two legs.

Well I sorry to tell you guys but I think you will have to watch new starts in South Africa....Bosnian team is very dangerous. Portugal is favorite and anything less than WC would be a disappointment to them, but the Bosnia has a strong team and few upcoming starts (whoever watches Champions league knows them). Nevertheless, it's going to be an interesting match with or without Ronaldo.
    GO BOSNIA!!!
