Blooming win Bolivia’s Clausura championship
LA PAZ, Oct 21 (Reuters) - Blooming won their fifth Bolivian league title when they drew 1-1 with Bolivar for a 2-1 aggregate victory in the Clausura championship final on Wednesday.
Blooming, who had won 1-0 in Sunday’s first leg of the final in Santa Cruz, qualified for next year’s South American Libertadores Cup.
Striker Roger Suarez put Blooming ahead in the 20th minute from a fine pass by captain Alejandro Gomez before Brazilian Charles Da Silva equalised 13 minutes later.
Bolivar coach Gustavo Quinteros watched the match at La Paz’s Hernando Siles stadium 3,600 above sea level from the stands because of a suspension.
Bolivar finished top of the Apertura championship in the first half of the year but were stripped of the title for allegedly fielding an ineligible player in their last match.
The title was handed to runners-up Real Potosi but Bolivar appealed and the decision of a Bolivian Football Federation tribunal is still pending. (Reporting by Diego Ore, editing by Greg Stutchbury; to query or comment on this story email sportsfeedback@thomsonreuters.com)
