Roman Pavlyuchenko Could Miss Out On 2010 World Cup - Russia Coach Guus Hiddink
Russia coach Guus Hiddink has warned striker Roman Pavlyuchenko that he could lose his spot in Russia's 2010 World Cup squad if he doesn't get regular first team action at Tottenham Hotspur.
"There is a danger that Roman will be omitted from the Russian squad for South Africa if his situation doesn't change," Hiddink was quoted as saying by The Daily Mail.
"It will depend on other strikers. I'm not going to take six forwards for one position. However, we all know how Pavlyuchenko can improve in the run-up to the World Cup.
“When we began preparing for Euro 2008, he was not in good form. But with three to four weeks of heavy training he lost four kilos and put himself in a position that allowed him to perform well at the European Championship," ended the former Chelsea boss.
Pavlyuchenko is finding regular first team football hard to come by at the north London side and the former Spartak Moscow striker is expected to leave England in the upcoming winter transfer window.
