Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has missed his appointment with the squad at the Borghesiana training centre in Rome with flu.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Juventus custodian has fallen victim to a strong bout of influenza, and failed to turn up to the Giro Azzurro this afternoon. Like the rest of the squad, Buffon was scheduled to arrive at 13:00CET, but it is said he has stayed at home.

He has now been given a time frame of two days to recover. If that fails, then Marcello Lippi is likely to call up Genoa goalkeeper Marco Amelia to take his place. The rest of the players arrived on time. Giuseppe Rossi was the other absentee. He has permission to join on Wednesday.

New Italy debutant Davide Biondini arrived alongside Lippi. A press conference involving Antonio Di Natale and Lippi will follow before the first training session takes place at around 15:30CET.

La Nazionale clash with the Netherlands in a friendly on Saturday followed by Sweden next Wednesday.
