We Can Emulate La Grande Inter - Javier Zanetti
Inter captain Javier Zanetti has drawn parallels between his side and the legendary La Grande Inter, who dominated Italian football during the 1960s.
Helenio Herrera's Nerazzurri won the title seven times in quick succession, and they also lifted back-to-back European Cups. The current side are on course for their fifth consecutive Scudetto, and Zanetti can see the similarities with La Grande Inter.
"We can make history this year. [President Massimo] Moratti is waiting for it. Then we can talk about the new Grande Inter," Zanetti told Tuttosport.
While the Nerazzurri have been enjoying the view from the summit in Serie A, they have struggled to reach new heights in Europe. However, Zanetti is acting as captain confidence.
"The Champions League final? It would be a dream, but we have to take things a step at a time. We want to get through the group, and then we will see where we can go," added the midfielder.
"Barcelona? We can beat them. They are strong, but we have the right ingredients to beat them."
