Player Ratings: Twente 1-0 Ajax
TWENTE
Sander Boschker: 7.5 - Led his line well and made a crucial intervention in the closing stages when he rushed out of his goal and punched the danger away.
Ronnie Stam: 7.5 - Defensively solid in a well organised side which countered the attacking threat of Suarez and co.
Peter Wisgerhof: 7 - Earned himself a booking for a lunge on Suarez in the first half. Replaced at half time to make way for David Carney
Douglas: 7.5 - Was able to cope with the threat of the Ajax attacking line and competed for every ball like the rest of his side.
Dwight Tiendalli: 8.5 - Outstanding display from the defender who started his career at Ajax. Made two excellent tackles to deny Suarez and his well timed intervention on Emanuelson near the end was defending at its very best.
Theo Janssen: 7.5 - Delivered the free kick which led to Ruiz's winning goal and was impressive throughout
Wout Brama: 7 - Was booked for a late challenge on Sulejmani and gave a gritty performance.
Kennet Perez: 6.5 - Fairly quiet throughout and was substituted with 15 minutes remaining.
Miroslav Stoch: 7.5 - Showed his pace with several mazy runs. Could have settled the game when he went one on one with Stekelenburg in the closing moments but fired into the side netting.
Bryan Ruiz: 8 - Very good all round display capped by his goal just after half-time. Delivered several quality crosses also.
Blaise N'Kufo: 7.5 - The veteran was in the thick of the action right from the start and went close with a bullet header in the first half.
Substitutes
David Carney: 7 - On for the second half and helped his side secure the three points with some good tackles.
Cheikh Ismael Tiote: 6.5 - Was given 15 minutes and gave his all.
Nashat Akram: N/A - The Iraqi came on to waste a few minutes as McClaren tried to wind down the clock.
AJAX
Maarten Stekelenburg: 6.5 - Made a good clearance in the 65th minute when he raced from his goal to clear the danger. Could have done better for the Ruiz goal.
Gregrory van der Wiel: 6 - Was unable to replicate his fine performance from a week ago and struggled to cope with a fine attacking line from Twente
Toby Alderweireld: 5.5 - Failed to organise his team for the set piece which led to the winning goal.
Jan Vertonghen: 6 - Defensively he was average along with the rest of his side. Fired across a fine first time ball which was picked up by Suarez who scrapped the bar with his effort.
Vurnon Anita: 5.5 - Not one of his better days. Blasted an ambitious shot well over the bar with 15 minutes remaining which didn't impress his coach.
Eyong Enoh: 6 - An average performance without any sparkling moments.
Gabri: 5.5 - Another who didn't show up for Godenzonen today.
Demy de Zeeuw: 5.5 - Was his twin playing today? A shadow of the outstanding performance he gave last week against Feyenoord when he ran them ragged.
Urby Emanuelson: 6.5 - Had a chance with 12 minutes remaining but was denied by the superb Tiendalli. Slightly better than the majority of his side today.
Luis Suarez: 7 - Rattled the crossbar early on and was a threat when he had the ball. Shame he didn't see more of it as we know what he can do.
Marko Pantelic: N/A - Taken off after quarter an hour with an apparent injury.
Substitutes
Miralem Sulejmani: 6 - Came on early to replace Pantelic but never got to grips with the game. Had some space inside the Twente area in the dying moments but blasted his effort well over the bar. Summed up Ajax's day.
Dennis Rommedahl: 6.5 - The Dane had 20 minutes to make an impression and sent in an inviting cross in the 83rd which bounced away quite luckily for the hosts.
Siem de Jong: 5.5 - Was given half an hour but didn't pull up any trees during his stint in Enschede.
