Orlando Pirates And Bafana Midfielder Benson Mhlongo Out For The Rest Of The Season
The 28-year-old Orlando Pirates midfielder suffered a knee injury against AmaZulu last week, and a scope on his knee has now confirmed torn ligaments, which has since been operated on.
“As we know by now, Mhlongo experienced a tackle injury that led to the knee-cap dislocation and associated medial collateral ligament and both cruciate ligaments sustained tears,” team doctor team doctor Bobby Ramasia told the club’s official website.
“He underwent the scope test on Friday and these ligaments were repaired following an arthroscopy procedure.
“An accelerated rehabilitation resumed immediately after the injury, pre-operation and post-operation. The resumption of sporting activity will take at least a season.”
Mhlongo had been a regular under former Bafana coach Joel Santana, and would have been confident of continuing that run under the returning Carlos Alberto Parreira.
