Olympique Lyonnais’ Hugo Lloris: I Performed To My Best Against Liverpool

France international goalkeeper Hugo Lloris may not be used to being particularly busy in the Olympique Lyonnais goal, but he was pleased with his contribution as les Gones secured a vital 1-1 Champions League draw against Liverpool on Wednesday evening.

The 22-year-old confirmed his status as a rising star of the French game by making a series of terrific blocks against the Reds, denying Fernando Torres, Andriy Voronin and Lucas, among others. After the match, the former Nice ‘keeper was eager to reflect on a memorable performance.

“I gave the best of myself,” he explained, according to France Football.

“We have transcended everything to get this point and qualify [for the last 16].

“I had to contribute more than usual. I had the chance to make some judgements. It's good for me and good for the team. What is noteworthy is primarily the result, and the equaliser right at the end.”

Liverpool’s hopes of progression now rest on OL getting a good result away to Fiorentina. Les Gones certainly won’t be lying down against the Italians, aiming for a strong result to secure top spot in the standings.

“We have to finish first because we must keep the soul of competitors,” explained the young goalkeeper.

Lyon midfielder Ederson was effusive with praise for the custodian, explaining to UEFA’s official website, “We needed to count on a super Hugo again.

“Hugo just keeps on getting better. He's a true professional who works hard every day. I'm happy to be playing alongside somebody like that because not only is he a top goalkeeper but he is also a humble, nice person.”

Meanwhile, left-back Aly Cissokho also sung the 'keepers praises. 

“Hugo was fantastic. We had trouble getting into the match. Our legs seemed a bit heavy. Luckily, Hugo made some brilliant saves,” he stated.

OL’s next task is a mammoth Ligue 1 encounter against Olympique de Marseille on Sunday evening. And injuries picked up by Anthony Reveillere and Miralem Pjanic on Wednesday evening will give general manager Claude Puel a headache.
