Manuel Jose: Algeria Will Qualify For 2010 World Cup At The Expense Of Egypt

Speaking to Al Heddaf, former Al-Ahly manager Manuel Jose has said that he believes Algeria will hold onto first place when they face the Pharaohs in Cairo and will thus qualify for next summer’s World Cup.

“I say it with some regret but I don’t think that the Egyptians can score three goals against Algeria. Honestly, it would be a miracle if they did,” he explained.

“It’s not because Egypt are weaker but you have to be realistic. They don’t have to score one or two but three. You see why I’m sceptical?”

The current Angola boss added that the reason he thinks that a three goal margin will be a tall order against the Fennecs is becasue they are a defensively solid side.

“Algeria have a very compact and solid defence. I don’t see how this defence, who has let in only two goals in these qualifiers will break down with the World Cup so close,” he said.

“The Algerians defenders are very vigilant and focused. On top of that you have to pay attention to their attackers who, at any moment, can surprise you with a counter.”
