Glen Johnson defiant over Liverpool's title chances

Glen Johnson, Liverpool's summer recruit from Portsmouth, remains defiant over his team's title chances, despite recent poor results.

While critics doubt the club's ability to bounce back from their five defeats already this season, Johnson counters that there is still an abundance of points to play for.

"People keep talking about us losing the title - they were doing it after we lost the first game of the season," Johnson explained in LFC Weekly magazine.

"But everyone knows that it's a long, hard campaign and all we can do is take each game at a time. It's a cliche, but it's true.

"We've got a fantastic group of players here. Everyone has been disappointed with the performances and results because we've got enough about us to do a lot better."

He added: "There has always been a belief that we are equipped to beat any team we face but a lot has gone against us, especially luck, and it has cost us games."

Following on from a disappointing midweek draw against Olympique Lyonnais in the Champions League, Rafael Benitez's Reds host Birmingham City on Monday evening looking to restore pride and confidence.
