Garry Cook: Manchester City Are Ready To Seize Premier League Opportunity
Manchester City chief executive Garry Cook is confident that his club are on the verge of becoming a true powerhouse of the English game.
Cook thinks everything is now in place at Eastlands for the Citizens to start enjoying major success over the next few seasons.
"There is definite momentum in terms of everything we are doing," he told City's official website.
"We are selling out the City of Manchester Stadium for games, there is general commercial uplift and that is great because we have gone through a lot of change in the past twelve months."
And the City directors and owners are perfectly content with the way things have looked on the pitch so far during this campaign.
“We are not disappointed with what we have done on the pitch so far this season. It is not a great start but it is not a bad start - Mark Hughes has said that himself - we are right on target for where we want to be," the CEO added.
"It’s all about the fans, everyone is desperate for something to happen (in terms of success on the pitch) and we have put ourselves in a good position. We are sixth in the table with a home League Cup quarter-final tie to come.”
“We have set higher expectations in a short space of time and Mark (Hughes) and I talk about this a lot .
“I was talking to one of the fans at the Emirates Palace and he was telling me how he used to look at the table and try to figure out when we would get to 40 points. We don’t think that way anymore.”
Cook also hinted that there was unlikely to be any major expenditure by City in January's transfer window.
“January is always busy, busier for some more than others," he said, somewhat enigmatically.
"Mark has some thoughts and some plans but they are by no means as aggressive as they have been in the past, that is for sure. We have a great squad of players that are just getting bedded in.
"We might find there is more speculation about what we might do than what we actually do."
