Fraizer Campbell wants to hang on to his starting place in Steve Bruce's Sunderland line-up when Arsenal visit the Stadium of Light after the international break.

The former Manchester United forward lined up in a wide right role in the defeat by Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, though he would prefer to play in attack alongside Darren Bent.

"Sometimes, you have to play for the team and that's really what I was trying to do at Spurs," he told The Sunderland Echo.

"I was playing wide on the right and I tried to support the midfield and defence as much as possible.

"That's a job I think I'm capable of doing, but it would obviously be nice to be playing up front in the Arsenal game.

"I'd like to be up there partnering Darren, but if the manager wants me to play on the right of midfield again, that will obviously be OK."

Defeat at Spurs means that the Black Cats have now lost as many game as they have won this season. Campbell is confident though that they will return rejuvenated after the international break.

"The international break will give us a recharge, but it's never nice when you go into a break on the back of a defeat," he added.

"The Spurs game will take a bit longer than normal to get out of our system, because we didn't have another game coming up straight away to concentrate on.
