FIFA World Club Championship Is A Major Objective For Barcelona - Txiki Begristain
Barcelona sporting director Txiki Begiristain has identified next month's FIFA World Club Championship as a major objective for the all-conquering Catalan outfit.
The draw for the club championship is made later today in Abu Dhabi, where the tournament will be held and Barca are already favourites. The Blaugrana and South American side Estudiantes de la Plata are expected to contest the final, which takes place on December 19.
The Argentinian side who are current Copa Libertadores holders will provide the stiffest test for Pep Guardiola's men, who are aiming to win the World Club champions title for the first time in their history.
"It's one of the major objectives of the club's history because we do not have this title. We won't become overwhelmed, but we need it. We have three European Cups and therefore, this is our third time the World Cup and we must seize the opportunity," he is quoted as saying, by Sport.
The tournament starts on December 9 but both Barca and Estudiantes are already in separate semi-final's of the tournament so won't be involved in the competition until December 12.
