Burnley striker Steven Fletcher has admitted that he is enjoying proving the sceptics wrong after scoring his sixth goal of the season at Manchester City on Saturday.

Some observers had questioned the 22-year-old's ability to adapt to the English game after his £3 million summer move from Hibernian. He is enjoying showing them that their fears were unfounded.

"Some people had a question-mark over myself when I was coming down from Scotland, but I’m happy I’m scoring goals and putting in performances like I am. There’s a lot of pressure off our shoulders getting a performance away from home like that," he told The Herald.

"It’s a bit unusual for us to go to a big place like that and be a bit disappointed not to get three points. We know we have not been up to scratch in our away games, but we are happy now and got a point which is good. There was a buzz in the changing room afterwards.

"There’s an international break now, and then we will come back and start again against [Aston] Villa and hopefully build on this."

Fletcher is now preparing to meet Wales with Scotland in a friendly international in Cardiff on Saturday and is hoping to add to his international goals tally.

He has scored once for Scotland, against Iceland last April.
