Bundesliga Sunday Round-Up: Hamburg, Bremen Drop Points Again
Hannover 2-2 Hamburg
Hertha Berlin 0-1 Koeln
Werder Bremen 1-1 Borussia Dortmund
Marcell Jansen built on his resurgent form, opening the scoring after 15 minutes. Hannover striker Didier Ya Konan, who also has impressed in recent weeks, responded by levelling 11 minutes later. Just before the half, Hamburg responded as Eljero Elia headed in a Piotr Trochowski free kick.
Despite not having their usual midfield dominance, Hamburg looked the more dangerous side in the second period, but the post denied Tunay Torun, and Hamburg goalkeeper Robert Enke took care of his goal with aplomb. Hamburg would rue their missed chances later on, when substitute Tomas Rincon conceded a penalty for a foul on Jiri Stajner. Stajner stepped up and drilled home his penalty to level the score and earn a point for Hannover.
Hertha were dominant throughout the match, but somehow managed to test Koeln goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon on just one occasion, an effort the Colombian international was able to save.
On the other end, Koeln had virgually no attack, but Milivoje Novakovic took two shots and netted scored with the second with just 11 minutes to go. The Slovenian international's goal was enough to lift Koeln to victory today and sink Hertha to yet another disappointing defeat.
Dortmund defended well early but Mesut Oezil volleyed in a beauty late in the first half. After the break, Dortmund broke out of a primarily defensive setup and their aggression paid dividends as Lucas Barrios equalized on 54 minutes.
After the score was brought level, both Bremen and Dortmund battled on for a possible winner but the teams were forced to settle for a draw.
