Algeria’s Players Don’t Even Know Their National Anthem - Egypt's Ahmed Hassan
In an interview with Al Masri Al Youm, Egyptian national team player Ahmed Hassan made an assertion about the Pharaoh’s upcoming opponents in World Cup qualifying that is set to add fuel to an already combustible mix.
“They’re free to say what they want about me. This situation started when I responded to a question of a journalist on our chances of beating Algeria. I told him that we’ve already beaten Algeria 5-2 in the past. My intention was to affirm that anything is possible,” he began.
“Now, I’m not surprised that certain Algerian players claim to not know me, considering that the majority of them don’t even know the national anthem of their country!”
The comment, which was a particularly odd one considering Hassan had just finished mentioning that he didn’t want to get into the war of words that is raging between both camps, will certainly not please Egypt’s group rivals, who they will face at home in a must win clash on November 14.
