Lyon stays 3rd after 1-1 against Nice in France
NICE, France (AP)—Lyon cemented third place in the French league to remain on course for the final Champions League berth after a 1-1 draw against Nice despite being reduced to 10 men.
Nice slipped to sixth and out of Champions League reckoning ahead of the last weekend of the season.
Nice took the lead in the 47th minute when Dario Cvitanich converted from the penalty spot after the forward had been fouled by Bakary Kone.
Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons was sent off in the 73rd after receiving a second yellow card. However, the visitors leveled two minutes later when Clement Grenier found the net from a free kick from 30 meters.
Lyon remained third, two points ahead of Saint-Etienne. Nice is three points behind Lyon but with an inferior goal difference.
