Beckham to miss out on England squad if Galaxy win

  • Print

LONDON (AP)—David Beckham will miss England’s friendly against Brazil next week after his MLS club Los Angeles Galaxy beat Chivas USA in the Western Conference semifinals.

Beckham was picked for the England squad Sunday, but with the understanding that the 34-year-old midfielder would not be available if the Galaxy won their playoff match later in the day.

The Galaxy are playing Houston in next weekend’s Western Conference final, when England is in Qatar to face Brazil.

England coach Fabio Capello picked the squad as he prepares for the World Cup next June in South Africa. Manchester United striker Michael Owen again missed out.

OK, as an American who loves soccer (futbol to those here in Europe) I must say that NFL Europe was here and no one wanted to watch it in person or on TV, they tried it back in the 90's and before that in the late 80's did not work then, will not work now nor will it ever work out here in Europe. NFL in Europe is like having the big league soccer in America that everyone actually goes out to watch, may happen one day, but not so much!!

As for the CK dude, England has been raised on Rugby and Soccer, real men play these sports, it involves contact without padding and gets you hurt, step up and be a man and become a fan of a real sport!!

    ENOUGH SAID!!

Then please go back to whatever trailer park or confederate state ya'll came from ya hear? And to post #78 real men put their boots and pants on one FOOT or LEG at a time the men who you speak of use their hands only to stimulate their scrotum! Real men can run for long periods of time and have stamina, Not be half dead after a 20 second play.

Truth is Europeans and Asians (and there is most of the world covered) dont give a flying duck about am.football!! But nothing wrong with people watching and playing it tho.

The fact is that the Londoners are begging for us to grant an NFL franchise to them. Once they have an NFL team there, nobody will watch soccer anymore. Just wait and see, soccer fans. I am betting that the popularity of soccer will go south since most people will be following football instead when they have an NFL franchise there.

Did anyone see the world series (MLB)? oh wait this IS the futbol forum right, everyone posting random sh!.t

If Beckham hated the MLS before, I'm sure he really wants out now. His chance to show he still has skills against one of the best teams in world, he has to miss it. LOL. Sorry Beck's you'll be coming off the bench and playing 15min in the WC games (if you keep skipping on preparation friendlies).

    HAHAHHA LMAO @ CK

In Asia, American football = Barbarian sport

Besides it is boring itself, Americans themselves chose a terrible system to make it boring. Elsewhere in the world, Soccer leagues are divided into different levels. there are promotion and regulation at the end of reason(s). In America, we watch the same teams over and over. Oppositely, instead of being punished by regulation for bad performance, worst teams are awarded with chances to 1st pick in draft. this encourages teams to lose their fighting spirit quickly after a bad start.

To conclude, an inferior sport plus an inferior system, American football is going nowhere outside of America.

Yo CK. Intelligence is inversely proportional to the scores of the sport one watches or plays most. You are probably a pinball wizard, scoring billions and billions of points.

CK, great analogy. Just one point to make to you....just because a football score is 21-14, does not mean that the opposing team just scored 21 times. I'll do the math for you, since you seem to lack much intellegence. 7 (the point total awarded for scoring a touchdown "goal") x3 = 21 points.

You're 21-14 outcome is equivalent to a 3-2 football match. You're just duped into believing you watched a 'high scoring' game because the point values are different. I feel sorry that you are so swept up in the NFL 'marketing machine' you can't think for yourself; but for the VAST majority of the world, including an increasing US population -- doesn't care. As exciting as an extra point, or field goal is, I'll pass. And don't get me started on college football. That's more of a sham/corrupted organziation, than the precious NFL.

    To SAMSON

Where I do not agree with the idiot CK I can not agree with you either. Football (Soccer) is the top game in the world but to say that there are no athletes in American Football is ridiculous. American Football is filled with top notch athletes and if you watch a game or two you would quickly understand what I mean. I am Football (Soccer) fan for life and find it to be my life-long passion but I am also a fan of American Football. Given the choice of watching my gunners play even a high-school team over a professional American Football game is an easy choice; Gunners all the way. However, to say American Football players are not athletes is just a way to talk @#$%. Give respect where it is due and argue with facts not conjecture.

To the idiot that's talking about 1 (one) NFL game sellout in England....I see your one and raise you these ...

July 18 -- Chelsea vs. Seattle Sounders (Attendance - 65,289 - Qwest Field, Seattle)

July 21 -- Chelsea vs. Inter Milan (81,224 - Rose Bowl, California)

July 22 -- Club America vs. AC Milan (53,600 - Georgia Dome, Atlanta)

July 24 -- Chelsea vs. AC Milan (71,203 - M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore)

July 26 -- Inter Milan vs. AC Milan (42,531 - Gillette Stadium, Foxboro)

July 26 -- Chelsea vs. Club America (57,229 - Cowboys Stadium, Texas)

August 01 -- FC Barcelona vs. LA Galaxy (93,137 -- Rose Bowl, California)

August 05 -- FC Barcelona vs. Seattle Sounders (66,848 -- Qwest Field, Seattle)

August 09 -- Real Madrid vs. DC United (72,368 -- M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore)

These are just the few I saved earlier. There have been a dozen more games, involving foriegn clubs, in this country that had nearly similar attendance and not just this year but almost every year. Obviously Americans are falling in love with soccer .. at least faster and in bigger number than British are with American football.

    41. Posted by Anthony L - England will not win the World Cup with or without Beckham. English fans are putting their hopes on Fabio Capello to lead them to win the 2010 World Cup but it will not happen. From what I have seen of Fabio, he plays favorites and does not stand behind his convictions. Michael Owen deserves to be on the English National team. I know he has had injury problems in the past, but he is healthy and seems to be playing in good form. He is Englands 4th leading goal scorer in International play with 40 goals - 1st among current players. He has the highest goal per game percentage of active players and would do a lot more to help England than Beckham. Owen also has scored 159 goals while playing for English clubs. More than any of the current forwards now on the English team. Defoe has the next highest total with 113 goals. Further, Peter Crouch is a starter for Tottenham but has only 1 goal in 12 matches! At least Owen has 2 goals as a substitute!

    63. Posted by C K - You never give up do you?! LOL! You go right on thinking that American football is the most popular sport in the World!! Europeans wouldn't give a bucket of warm hamster vomit for American football! Yea, they might watch a NFL game but it is a novelty for them but would never catch on in the futbol (soccer) playing World. You might have millions of American football fans in the US but you have BILLIONS of soccer fans World wide and you will never convert them to the NFL!!

Gambling is also a big reason football americano is so popular. Have you ever tried explaining football or bb to a European? It's pretty frustrating. It will try your patience. They don't understand it , especially the Nfl. And just once I'd like to hear the announcers admit the game is too LONG or this challenge is taking too long. It will never happen.

Football, not soccer, is the most popular sport in the world, period. Don't you all soccer fans know that the NFL games in London sold out so quickly that a lot of people couldn't buy the tickets there. People live in Europe had to watch soccer instead since they didn't have chances to watch the football games in person. Now that people are getting more exposure of football, they begin to realize that football is a much better sport than soccer and I expect them to become the football fans and stop watching a boring sport like soccer. Also, they will have a NFL franchise soon in London, and the fanbase will just keep getting larger and larger there. Tom Brady was followed closely by a bunch of the European media when he was in London. What about a so called soccer superstar like Landon Donovan? A lot of Americans don't even know who he is. Soccer fans, you just have to accept the fact that football is getting bigger and bigger in Europe and rest of the world, while we will never care about soccer in America.

CK .....here is a play by play NFL game......and were back folks from our commercial break and here is Manning coming out of the huddle and looks like they are lined up in a 3 2 formation and he the snap and he gives it to the half back and his stopped short at the 50 yard line and now there is a flag on the play and were gonna take a commercial break while the referees sort this out....ZZzzzzzzzz

see what happened there ur fat @ss needs the commercial breaks for chips and beer while the wife is bangin the neighbor, in real football, soccer to you, we have no commercial breaks its a none stop game for 90 minutes with real skill not overgrown out of shape lineman and 5 seconds plays and 3 hour commercials for a game thats only played 60 minutes. OH and the NFL has no athletes takes no real skill just size u could make a case for the wide receivers as the only athletic positions but thats it.

Football is an american phenomenon, not an international sport. BB has a better chance. Becks looked pretty good today. The pass he made to set up the goal was one not many players can make and certainly no one in the Mls can. He should have scored in the first half, though he's not really a goal scorer. If England is going to have guys like Crouch and Heskey in the squad then Becks is in there. I'm not entirely sold on English nat team. I would certainly take Owen over Heskey.

In Qatar? No chance for England to do much. I think it's going to be more of a 3-0 in favor of Brazil. In England, it would have been different - 2-1 in favor of Brazil. I watch all sports and of all sports, the most captivating, the most elegant, the most creative sport I watch is soccer, by far, by very far I should say.WHAT A SPORT!!!

To all the lovers of the NFL, who, for whatever reason, come into a soccer forum and rant...... YES!!! The Dallas Cowboys in a game versus Manchester United with NFL rules, would murder United, but the same teams with FIFA rules in a soccer match? How many of those 300 + pound linemen can run for more than 6 seconds at a time? Much less 20 straight minutes. And 45 minutes? Not likely at all.
Those same Cowboys now playing against the Boston Bruins in an NFL game. Same result as the United game. Would beat the crap out if the Bruins, but in an NHL game, Bruins on top.
I myself am an United States Soccer Federation Referee. Since right now I live in Stuttgart, Germany because of my job, I am also a DFB, German Soccer Federation Referee. I also umpire little leauge baseball, and referee ice hockey and inline hockey games. I also play these sports. Growing up and in school, I also played football.
It's a big world. There are lots of sports and I enjoy more than one. If American Football is all you enjoy, why don't you at least try other sports?
Here is something to think about for everyone...... "Lack of knowledge breeds ignorance." Learn about these sports you put down so fast. Go out and play in a few games, not just one. Read blogs from sources that have the knowledge.
My favorite teams.... NHL - Boston Bruins. MLB - Atlanta Braves. NHL - New Orleans Saints. World Cup Soccer - USA and Germany. Soccer/football - FC Bayern Munich. NCAA - Auburn Tigers.
DEL - Adler Mannheim. IIHF - USA and Germany.

Whats the deal with bashing soccer at a soccer forum.. that's just hating... seriously why are people afraid of soccer becoming as popular as it is in other countries... why do you care if they fill a stadium or the games are shown on TV. If soccer becomes just as big as the NFL good, if not then let the people who love this game enjoy it... stop hating !!!!

I like the NFL as well, but lets face it the main reason why its gotten so BIG its because the NFL is made for TV.. soo many commercials its a TV network's dream !!!
