CAS temporarily suspends Chelsea’s transfer ban

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP)—The Court of Arbitration for Sport has suspended Chelsea’s transfer ban until it can reach a final decision on the club’s appeal.

The court’s decision Friday almost certainly frees Chelsea to acquire players when the international transfer market reopens in January.

FIFA had banned the Premier League club from signing players for the next two transfer windows for breaking rules in acquiring French teenager Gael Kakuta from Lens in 2007. Chelsea appealed to CAS against the FIFA ruling that cut the London club out of the market until January 2011.

CAS did not say when it expected to reach a final decision. It could take several weeks to arrange an appeal hearing and several more for the panel of arbitrators to reach a verdict.

    all the premiership fan side that are happy over our ban must go to hell(manu fan, arsenal) becouse a friday that is going to be is known from wednesday, lifting the ban till further notice, is a sign of victory over the case. we are not relenting in our title race inspite all the obstacles that confront our way. michel platini your journy is almost over. hi to all chelsea fans.     michel platini should resign or fired. he is prejudiced against all the english clubs. he has no professionalism and self courage. he uses his position to take out his hate on english clubs. thats not the way fifa should set the example for the world. get rid of michel platini.

    It will be interesting to see if any of the players Chelsea has signed to these "long term contracts" is induced by another team to break their contract and thus Chelsea finds itself as the injured party the next time.

    dude popeye.... im just saying based on what n s said, is tht italy and spain cant offer a contract to a player until he is 18 and older, and if so how did inter sign balotelli to a contract, and same with pato? he came to ac when he was like 17. but anyways i no spain has tht rule, i just dont think italy does based on those signings but i could be wrong...... lol... why call me a douche? i was just asking him then how did ac and inter sign them.... up the gunners!!!!!! chelski kind of deserve their banning since they did the same with cashley a few years back...no offence....

    the united fans always amuse me. "build a team fair and square? by spending the seocnd largest amount of money in the world to buy championships? how is that fair to the lower market clubs.

    and wishing injury upon chelsea players is just cruel and poor class.

    i find it to be a fitting punishment. barring them from competition would be overkill and would never stick as it would damage the franchise as well as the sport.

    FIFA, if only you would ban Chelsea to compete in ANY leagues, domestic and international, that'll teach em a lesson. That transfer ban is just for show...what a joke!

    Hopefully other teams will break some Chelsea legs so they will have to play amateurs from their youth when all the others are in the hospital. That's how the mob does it, fits Chelsea right with a mobster as their owner...HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!

    @ BLANK: Let me do the honors.. both Pato and Balotelli were signed by the transfer of a sum of money in return for the player, something that takes place commonly on a regular basis among every single football club on planet earth. What Chelski and Manu did was wrong, because they got the players, without paying any sum of money to their former clubs... gosh, what a douche!
