Sweden's Henrik Larsson announces retirement

STOCKHOLM (AFP) - Swedish footballer Henrik Larsson will retire from the game after playing a last match on November 1, his team said Tuesday.

"Henrik Larsson has informed HIF that he will retire as a football player after this season," a statement on the Helsingborg IF (HIF) club website said.

After an international career in which he played outside of Sweden for the Feyenoord, Celtic, Barcelona and Manchester United clubs, the forward now plays with the Helsingborg IF club in the Swedish football league.

He will end his career with the team when it plays Elfsborg in the Swedish league's last round of matches on November 1.

"All of HIF thanks Henrik for this year and wishes him luck with his future plans," the statement added.

"I now know that I am 100 percent certain of my decision to stop. I am 38 now and enough is enough," Larsson said in a statement released by his agent, according to Swedish news agency TT.

Along with Danish footballer Brian Laudrup, Larsson was the first foreigner to be introduced into the Scottish football hall of fame.

Larsson, who played his first match for Sweden's national squad in 1993, has 106 caps and 37 goals to his name.
