Fed-up Campbell mulls Notts County tribunal action

LONDON (AFP) - Former England defender Sol Campbell is considering taking Notts County to a tribunal to allow him to continue his career away from the League Two club.

Campbell left County after just one appearance following his shock switch to the Meadow Lane outfit earlier this season, but County still hold his registration more than a month after he quit.

The 35-year-old former Arsenal and Tottenham centre-back wants to continue playing and has been approached by Newcastle, but is unable to join another club until January unless he wins special dispensation from the Football Association and he is now ready to take the matter to a tribunal.

"I'm just fed up with it all," Campbell said. "It might be simpler and quicker to go to a Football League tribunal next week and sort it out.

"I need a new club to make an appeal to allow me to play again and, to do that, the club would need to put forward my case in full."

Campbell has also been linked with West Bromwich Albion and has trained with Arsenal to keep up his fitness, but a move to Championship leaders Newcastle appeals to him.

"I have been approached by several clubs, and yes, it is correct to say that Newcastle are one of them," he told ESPN Soccernet.

"People might be surprised to hear me say that I would be very interested in a move there, but I have my reasons. Also, Newcastle are a big club and could be heading back to the Premier League. It appeals."
