As if Friday's quarterfinal victory for the Netherlands over Brazil wasn't insane enough, Paris Hilton was also in attendance to add to the craziness with her standard ditzy socialite flare. She didn't throw a pink party in the Brazil change room or make another special video with Robin van Persie, but she was detained by South African police for allegedly possessing marijuana at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. The AP reports:
A local radio station in Johannesburg said Hilton was detained outside the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium, following the quarterfinal match between Brazil and Netherlands.
A police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Hilton was caught with an unspecified amount of marijuana.
"She was found in possession of some amount of dagga,'' the officer said, using the local name for marijuana. "We don't know how much. It's a high profile person, only the top cops are dealing with it,'' he said.
So there you have it. Wesley Sneijder scoring a winning goal against Brazil with his head. Felipe Melo stomping out Arjen Robben. Paris Hilton caught with dope. Madness in all directions.

UPDATE: This international nightmare is over. According to TMZ, Paris has been released and a member of her entourage has confessed to the crime and paid a small fine. The police "apologized for misidentifying her." Of course they did.
