Hamit Altintop won the 2010 FIFA Puskas Award for the best goal of the year at Monday's drawn-out Ballon d'Or ceremony. Altintop's splendid volley came in Turkey's 3-0 win over Kazakhstan to begin its Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.
It's hard to say any one of the 10 nominees (see all of them here) for the award's public vote was better than the others. My pick would have been Matty Burrows' flying backheel, though.
To add a bit of awkwardness to FIFA's gala event, they had a surprise guest present Altintop the award -- Andrei Sidelnikov, the goalkeeper Altintop scored his winning goal against.
Video of the presentation right this way...
The look on Altintop's face when he sees Sidelnikov come out is geniunely funny. Also, kudos to Sidelnikov for being such a good sport and not stabbing Altintop in the chest with the award.
