Dirty Tackle - World Soccer

After suffering the tragic Achilles injury that is keeping him out of the World Cup, David Beckham has embarked on taking even more public positions than he has in the past, most notably as an official ambassador of England's 2018 World Cup bid and a possible(?) motivational coaching-type person in the England set-up in South Africa.

In order to deal with the added pressure of being the smiling face of the FA, ShowbizSpy and MSN claim that Becks is turning to close Hollywood schmooze-pal and always jacked-up crazy person Tom Cruise for help:

"Tom Cruise has been giving pal David Beckham tips on motivational speaking.

The British soccer star is set to help coach the England football team to World Cup victory in South Africa — and has reportedly turned to the Top Gun star for advice on how to communicate with large groups of people.

“For someone who has been in the public eye for so long, David is still not the most confident when it comes to speaking out. He’s very shy,” said one loose-lipped insider.

“He has spoken to Tom among others about how best to motivate people.

“Tom is a confident guy and always gives him great advice and David wants to be able to do the same, whatever the circumstances.”

First of all, when can't you trust "loose-lipped" insiders? And secondly, it seems that despite modeling underwear and being all over your television, Davey is actually quite shy on the inside. It must stem from the cold embrace of his robot wife or something.

I can just see it now as Tom Cruise advises David Beckham into L.A. Galaxy retirement so he can take the American heartland on a barnstorming motivational-speaking series. That would be quite the pair to help get your life back in order, but you have to trust Becks on turning to his close buddy Cruise for help ... because nothing projects composed motivational confidence more than an impromptu out-of-control trampoline session on Oprah's couch in front of a national television audience or laughing like this.
