Top 5 Places to Go Ice Skating in Connecticut

Connecticut has quite a few excellent ice skating rinks that are open to the public. Many are NHL regulation size, family friendly and easy on the wallet.

Here are my picks for the best five:

1. Wonderland of Ice

The Wonderland of Ice is located on Glenwood Avenue in Bridgeport and features an indoor hockey-sized rink. There is also a hockey shop on site. Admission prices range from $4 for kids under 12 years of age to $6 for adults. Skate rentals are extra ($4), so you may want to consider bringing your own. Hours of operation vary, but, for the most part, it opens daily at 11 a.m.

2. Danbury Arena

The Danbury Arena is located in Danbury and features an indoor ice rink that is 200 feet by 85 feet. A concession stand, skate shop and arcade are also on site. Personally, I find the prices reasonable, especially when they run deals that include snacks with your admission. Admission prices start at $6 per person and skate rentals are $4. Hours of operation vary throughout the year based on hockey games and other special events.

3. Bridgewater Ice Arena

The Bridgewater Ice Arena is located in Bridgewater and features a hockey-sized indoor rink. It is traditionally open Sunday through Friday from noon until 2 p.m., and admission is $5 per person. On occasion, the facility also hosts special family nights. If you forget to bring your skates, you may rent a pair on site for $3. Refreshments, a skate shop and an arcade are also on premise.

4. Bolton Ice Palace

The Bolton Ice Palace is located in Bolton and offers visitors a well-maintained, 200-feet-by-85-feet rink. Vending machines and a skate shop are also available on site. It is open at various times throughout the year, and admission is a modest $6 per person, regardless of age. The most economical time to visit is weekdays after lunch when skate rental is included in the admission price. All other times skate rental will cost you and additional $3 per person. You may also opt to bring your own ice skates, of course.

5. Northford Ice Clinic

The Northford Ice Clinic is located in Northford and features a year-round indoor ice rink. One of the things that I like best is the price—$7 will get you in the door as well as ice skate rentals. It opens to the public at 11 a.m. Monday through Friday and on weekend afternoons.

My family enjoys winter sports and has traveled extensively.
