When looking for an ice skating rink it is important to know what you want. Depending on the rink, you could be skating on the same ice as Alex Ovechkin and getting a workout, or you could just be holding hands with your sweetheart and going in circles.

This outdoor pavilion gets turned into a skating rink every year. Skate rentals are available with adult admission at $9 and $7 for children and seniors. It is a charming little rink that offers skating lessons, birthday and corporate parties, and holds special events on Fridays and Saturdays. It is open from 11 a.m. or earlier every day until 7 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends. It is probably the most low-key option on this list, and the likeliest place to take a family or a date.

The official practice rink of the Washington Capitals , this is the place to go if you're a Capitals fan. There is year-round public skating, skate rentals are $4 and tickets range from $6-$8 for adults, students and seniors. There are quite a few events and programs here as well, including skating lessons, local "School Spirit" nights, birthday parties and corporate events. Not to mention the fact that Capitals practices are open to the public. This is great for a family or group who wants to attend a Capitals practice and then do some skating.

This skating rink has probably the most options, so it's great for groups with many different experience levels within the groups. Of course, skate rentals are available and admission is between $6.25 and $8.25. The arena has skating lessons, both private and group, hockey leagues, figure skating lessons and competitions and party packages. It is the place to be if ice skating, figure skating or hockey are going to be major hobbies for you or your family.
