Top 5 Places to Go Skiing in Connecticut

Are you looking for a place to take the family skiing in Connecticut? I have five places that I can recommend.

Skiing.

Here they are:

1. Mohawk Mountain Ski Area

The Mohawk Mountain Ski Area is located in Cornwall. I suggest that skilled skiers check out a combination of the Timber and Rapids Trails. It opens Monday through Friday at 9:30 a.m. and at 8:30 a.m. on the weekends. Lift ticket prices range from $15 to $54 per person. The most cost effective times to go are during the week or on Fridays and Saturdays from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m., when adults can access the slopes for $26 per person.

2. White Memorial Foundation

The White Memorial Foundation is located in Litchfield. It features over 35 miles of cross country ski trails, a museum and historic out buildings. My favorite trails are near Ongley Pond and the museum. It is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Sundays from noon until 5 p.m. Admission ranges from $3 to $6, and it is closed on major holidays.

3. Ski Sundown

If you are looking for a mix of ski trails and terrain parks, Ski Sundown should be on your list. It is located in New Hartford and features 15 trails and two terrain parks. My family loved the Stinger Trail and terrain park for the jibbing action. You may expect to dish out $15 to $55 per lift ticket. It is open daily and the rates are the same regardless of when you visit.

4. Woodbury Ski and Skate Park

The Woodbury Ski and Skate Park is located in Woodbury and offers a terrain park, alpine and cross country skiing. One of the nice things about Woodbury is that even the cross country trails are lit up at night. It is open daily, year round. Prices range from $12 to $39 per person. The most economical time to go is in the evenings from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m., when adult lift tickets drop down to $29 each.

5. Mount Southington Ski Area

The Mount Southington Ski Area is located in Southington and features 14 trails, including, one of my favorites, the Steeple Chase. It is open from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. on the weekends and from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. on the weekdays. Lift ticket prices range from $14 to $53 per person. The least expensive times to go are weekdays from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., when adult lift tickets average $28 to $30 each.

My family enjoys winter sports and has been to Connecticut many times.
