KANPUR, India, Nov 26 (Reuters) - Indian fast bowler
Shanthakumaran Sreesanth claimed three quick wickets to leave Sri
Lanka in serious trouble in the second test on Thursday.
The touring side were reeling at 138 for five at lunch on the
third day as the hosts took command, following up on their
massive first innings score of 642.
At lunch, Mahela Jayawardene, who was dropped on 25, was 26
not out with Prasanna Jayawardene on two, the visitors still 504
runs behind.
Sreesanth, back in the side after over a year, was rewarded
for a disciplined morning spell taking 3-28 in nine overs after
Sri Lanka resumed on their overnight total of 66-1.
He struck in the sixth over of the day by removing opener
Tharanga Paranavitana for 38 before skipper Kumar Sangakkara (44)
and Thilan Samaraweera (2) played wide deliveries onto the
stumps.
Off spinner Harbhajan Singh then bowled all rounder Angelo
Mathews for 13 to push Sri Lanka deeper into trouble.
Paranavitana had added 82 runs with Sangakkara for the second
wicket until he edged a swinging delivery and wicketkeeper
Mahendra Singh Dhoni took a diving catch to his left.
Sangakkara also looked well-set until he dragged on after
playing a wild drive and Sreesanth made it 111-4 when Samaraweera
also drove without moving his feet.
Harbhajan replaced Sreesanth and bowled Mathews after the
batsman missed the line playing forward in defence.
He almost removed Mahela Jayawardene edging an attempted cut
shot but Rahul Dravid at slip failed to hold on to the catch.
On Wednesday, India's Gautam Gambhir (167), Virender Sehwag
(131) and Dravid (144) all scored centuries to help the hosts
post a huge total.
The first test in Ahmedabad ended in a draw. Mumbai will
stage the third and final test from Dec. 2.
