BRIEF-Cycling-Washington interested in Giro d’Italia stage

  • Print

MILAN, Nov 4 (Reuters) - Washington could one day host the opening stage of the Giro d’Italia, race director Angelo Zomegnan said on Wednesday.

The three-week race, traditionally all around Italy, will begin in Amsterdam next May and organisers are looking even further afield for future starting points.

“For a while we’ve had in mind the idea of starting the Giro in America. Now, there is concrete interest from Washington,” Zomegnan told Gazzetta dello Sport, whose publishers run the Giro.

I dont care about doping as long as it is a good race. Let them all dope...who even cares. I want to see the fastest, longest, most insane race that be ridden with the baddest men alive who will go all out from start to finish. Let see the average speed over 40 MPH and sprints up to 70 MPH. And while were at it lets allow for ten pound bikes with airbags to protect the riders from 100 MPH downhill crashes! Now that sounds fun.

PJ... we get your point already. PLEASE stop the endless posting regarding your opinions on drug use in sport. I believe we're all sick of it. This topic is about the Giro in Washington. Can't you contribute something useful on this topic?

One wonders where exactly this is going; JB and Lance seem like a one-trick pony, and that trick, along with the ponies, is getting rather old. But I will give them credit: the Trek/Livestrong development team is evidence that they're building for the future, when it's finally time to pack away US Postal for good.

Is not that the truth? Unhealthy addiction . = Unhealthy adoration and support to LA by lance trance zombies? Hummmmm.

    Team Shack

v.2009: Or is it Team The Shack? God, that would suck. Anyway, I suppose you could argue that it didn't exist, but of course it did, just under a different set of colors. The Bruyneel Model is all about loading up for the grand tours without a shred of restraint. Of course, when you only meaningfully contest one of the three grand tours, despite having enough riders for at least five GT squads, it raises some uncomfortable questions. Like, do Bruyneel and Armstrong have an unhealthy relationship to the Tour de France? Of the I-know-better-but-can't-stop-myself variety? They do, and everyone knows it: you, me, them, even ASO. But hey, it's their money, not mine.

v.2010: It's tempting to just call this the wayback machine version of a Bruyneel team -- everyone but that annoying Contador guy -- but it is worth noting that they should be a presence in a few classics as well, with Vaitkus a B-list cobbles guy along with Steegmans and Rosseler, plus Lance and young gun Ben Hermans in the Ardennes. One wonders where exactly this is going; JB and Lance seem like a one-trick pony, and that trick, along with the ponies, is getting rather old. But I will give them credit: the Trek/Livestrong development team is evidence that they're building for the future, when it's finally time to pack away US Postal for good.

Holiday Wish List: Honestly, I can't think of anything. There are plenty of needs, but I don't know if Bruyneel is interested, and I'm not overly interested if they aren't.

You know Matt, I was looking for that post again and couldn't find it because that is the one that I was going to use as an example. But if they are going to delete one post, why not stop "it" from posting at all. I must admit, that his bashing of the USA and 9-11 was pretty cruel to say the least, they could just prevent him from posting at all. It sure would make this site a lot more interesting, especially as far as cycling goes. Can you believe that we have to wait almost 7 months till next July??

That one asinine post by PJ was deleted thank you very much. The one where he was trashing the 9-1-1 scene. So reporting does work in that an individual post may be deleted. I think Yahoo has more work to do here....

I just posted a comment, and one minute it was there and the next minute it was gone. So I guess Yahoo is going to keep some of my postings from showing up, but not the person involved that we are trying to get rid of. Figure that one out!!!

Why don't we just have a race across the world!!! I think they are just getting a little crazy now. We could have a race across the USA in stages instead of the RAAM. Let's have a race for those over 60, in stages. Hey, we could go on and on.
