LPGA golfer Cristie Kerr was featured on The Apprentice.
Pitching the ball accurately with spin requires speed through the hitting zone. Cristie is practicing a pitch of 25 yards in these two pictures. In her set-up, she tries to play the ball in the center of her stance with her weight favoring her left leg. The shaft is leaning slightly toward the target.
Her swing is roughly waist high to waist high with emphasis on striking the ball first and then the ground. As we work on her finish, she likes to feel extension in her arms and resistance. Resistance means she feels the club hit a stop point at waist high eliminating excess motion.
This swing shape and size helps create speed through the ball which is critical for creating backspin. If her swing gets longer and slower she has trouble controlling the ball on the green. Try to hit some short pitches and finish like Cristie for better contact.
Cristie Kerr has emerged as one of the game's premier female athletes. After
an extraordinary amateur career Cristie joined the LPGA Tour, where she
quickly ascended to the upper echelon of the sport.
Cristie was fifth on the official 2004 LPGA money list, becoming only the
tenth golfer in history to earn over $1,000,000 in a season. Cristie had her
best season yet in 2004 with eleven top-ten placements including three tour
victories.
