  • “VinceTennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young(notes) has had some kind of weird season. After being benched for most of last season, he got to watch his team suffer through six straight losses to start the season behind quarterback Kerry Collins(notes). Supposedly, after much pressure from owner Bud Adams head coach Jeff Fisher finally said that he would put Young in as the starter. Fisher must be burning inside right now because Young has led the Titans to four straight victories.

The most improbable win came Monday night when the Titans were underdogs to the Houston Texans and came out with a 20-17 victory. There's a photo now circulating that appears to show "impartial" NFL ref Jerome Boger high-fiving Young after the game, according to the New York Post.

The NFL is denying it, of course. Here's the statement from the league: "It was not Jerome Boger's intent to exchange a high-five with the player. It began with the referee making the proper administrative signal and resulted in the appearance of an inappropriate action. As Vince Young took a knee on the game's final play, Jerome Boger jogged in with his right arm in the air to signify the play was over. That is the proper administrative signal for the referee. As Young turned around, he saw Boger approaching the line of scrimmage with his arm raised. As Boger moved toward the line of scrimmage, he started to bring his arm down. However, before he lowered his arm, Young, moving towards the referee, raised his own arm and the two exchanged what appeared to be a quick high-five."

  • “ChadPretty soon you will be able to think of Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco(notes) when you're having sex, according to the New York Daily News.

The five-time Pro Bowler has done a whole lot of goofy stuff in his time in the NFL. Most recently he got a $20,000 fine for trying to bribe a ref with a buck. Of course, the whole name-change thing from Chad Johnson to Chad Ochocinco ranks right up there, too. And there was the race on foot versus a thoroughbred horse that he won back in 2007. (So he was given a 110-yard head start.)

But this one takes the cake on pure self-promotion. Ochocinco has recently tweeted an actual mockup of the box his condoms would come in.

This all apparently stems from Ochocinco joking about creating condoms under his name earlier this year on HBO.

  • “BillThe news came yesterday via the Chicago Tribune that the Chicago Bears are on the list for former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher. The idea of taking over the Bears or the Houston Texans supposedly "would excite" Cowher.

But current Bears coach Lovie Smith has another two years on his contract and the team supposedly doesn't want to pay two coaches simultaneously, especially if Cowher wants around $10 million annually.

And today the word is that some Bears exec is starting to look for a replacement for Smith and general manager Jerry Angelo, according to the Tribune. Former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, who has spent a lot of time with current Bears quarterback is on the list. The Buffalo Bills are supposedly talking to Shanahan this week about taking over there. Other folks on the list are reportedly Cowher and former Buccaneers and Raiders coach Jon Gruden.

The Bears are officially saying there is nothing to the rumor. Nada.

  • “KerryNew York Jets free safety Kerry Rhodes(notes) signed a contract extension two years ago that would pay him $33.5 million and even though he's making that kind of dough, coach Rex Ryan is going to go ahead and bench the fellow, according to FOXSports.

Jets players are apparently telling FOX that Eric Smith(notes) will get the start over Rhodes. Unfortunately for Smith, the benching will likely be a short one. It's believed that this is a benching that is meant to send a message: nobody is expendable and everybody needs to work harder.

Rhodes hasn't had a very good year. He hasn't had one interception or forced one fumble and he's only broken up five passes. Even so, a much bigger problem for the Jets is the fact that the offense keeps turning over the ball and the passing game that looked so good very early in the season is now ranked near the bottom for the whole league.

  • “RonThe New York Knicks has been clearing up its roster for years in order to create enough salary room next summer to go after all of the big-name free agents: LeBron James(notes), Dwyane Wade(notes), Chris Bosh(notes), Amare' Stoudemire, etc. But Ron Artest(notes) is saying the Knicks will be extremely lucky if the team gets any of those guys.

Artest told the New York Daily News that free agents are a little frightened to go play for New York. "I think people need to stop being scared and go to New York," he said. "They're scared. They're so scared of the pressure and the media. That's why I went to St. John's. People were like, 'Don't go to St. John's because you don't need the distractions.' I was like, 'I'm going here because I want to go here.' If I wanted to play for the Knicks, I would play because I wanted to play and I wouldn't feel no pressure from anybody."

Of course, as everybody knows, Artest is not afraid of anything.

  • “KenyonThe New Jersey Nets have lost 14 games in a row and starting to get a little too close for comfort to the league record for most losses to start a season. That record of 17 is shared by the 1988 Miami Heat and the 1999 Los Angeles Clippers.

It would be easy to blame coach Lawrence Frank or the injuries the club has suffered, but former Net Kenyon Martin is apparently thinking there is one person who should accept what he's done, according to the New York Daily News: current owner Bruce Ratner.

Martin, who plays for the Denver Nuggets now, is saying Ratner started the team on a downward spiral right after the team made the NBA Finals in 2002 and 2003. "When you let people who have never played the game of basketball make decisions, that's what you get," said Martin. "Bruce Ratner came in and made decisions and it affected everything from that point on. The blame for that has to go somewhere. It can't always be on the players."

Perhaps Martin is still bumming that Ratner wouldn't give him the money he wanted for a long-term deal six years ago just after Ratner came aboard. "It's been six years now but it still pops up, just 'What if they would have made the right decision?' " Martin said. "It just seems like when I left it was just downhill from there, and we had something good."

  • The “RoyNew York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels are supposedly talking to the folks with the Toronto Blue Jays about what it would take to bring ace Roy Hallday to their clubs. But it appears that the Boston Red Sox are coming after Halladay hard if you believe a source to the New York Daily News.

The source said that the Sox are "putting on a full-court press" to get Halladay and would love to get the deal done before the winter meetings. While that timeline seems unlikely, the world is full of surprises. Clay Buchholz(notes) and No. 1 prospect Casey Kelly would likely need to be in the package for Halladay, who has one more year on his current contract.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox have also asked for the medical records of pitchers Kelvim Escobar(notes) and Rafael Soriano(notes), according to the Boston Herald. The thought is that Boston would like to get Escobar on with a minor-league deal since he has pitched in the majors only once in the last two years.

  • “LyleToronto Blue Jays first baseman Lyle Overbay(notes) is soon to be goner, according to the Toronto Globe and Mail.

The paper says it is "90 percent" likely that Overbay will be just a name in the history books for the Blue Jays by the time the winter meetings are over in early December. The 32-year-old is scheduled to make $7 million next year, which is pretty good for a guy who only hit .265 with 16 homers and 65 RBIs. The Seattle Mariners supposedly had some interest in Overbay but it isn't clear where he'll end up.

Meanwhile, MLB.com is reporting that the Jays have an interest in free agent catcher Yorvit Torrealba(notes). The San Francisco Giants and Torrealba's former team, the Colorado Rockies, supposedly want him on their rosters as well so this may end up in a bidding war.

The Blue Jays have no pro catcher right now since Rod Barajas(notes) is a free agent.

  • “FernandoYoung New York Mets outfielder Fernando Martinez(notes) may be one of the team's top prospects but the team is apparently ready to put him up on the trading block, according to the New York Daily News.

The 21-year-old Martinez played only 29 games in his first season in the majors due to surgery on his right that he is still recovering from, hitting one homer and scoring 11 runs. But he got a lot of good publicity before then.

Now he's about to try and prove that he's healthy and worth trading for as he starts winter ball for Leones del Escogido of the Dominican Winter League. The Mets actually held him back from starting winter ball because it was supposedly having trade discussions about him.

  • “Billy
It's looking like the Atlanta Braves are going to need some help at the back end of the bullpen since it appears that relievers Rafael Soriano(notes) and Mike Gonzalez(notes) are going to head out of town via free agency, according to MLB.com.

The man at the top of the list in Atlanta is supposedly Billy Wagner(notes), who finished out last season with the Boston Red Sox after spending most of the year as a full-fledged member of the injured New York Mets contingent.

Talks between the Braves and Wagner's rep have reportedly already taken place. Wagner is a Type A free agent but so are Soriano and Gonzalez so the compensation Atlanta would get from any team those two sign with will offset whatever the Braves need to give up for signing Wagner.

The funny thing is that Soriano and Gonzalez are apparently on the list for the Boston Red Sox so this may end up being a trade of sorts.

If Wagner joins the Braves, it will be the third National League East team that he has played for, since also spent time as the closer for the Philadelphia Phillies.
