National Signing Day 2012 - College

Months of speculation over where Eddie Goldman would end up has ended with a commitment from the nation's No. 2 defensive tackle.

On Wednesday the five-star defensive lineman, ranked the No. 7 overall recruit in the nation by Rivals.com, selected Florida State. Goldman's commitment gives a huge boost to an already stellar class for the Seminoles.

"I think Eddie chose FSU because of the relationship with coach Odell Haggins first and foremost," said Washington (D.C.) Friendship Collegiate Academy head coach Aazaar Abdul-Rahim. "He really developed a bond with him and that relationship was key."

Goldman also took visits to Miami, Alabama and Auburn, but it has been clear for a while that Florida State would be tough to beat out. At one point it looked as though the Crimson Tide had surged into the lead but Alabama's defensive line depth may have helped Florida State's chances. Conversely, the young talent in Tallahassee has Goldman believing he can be a part of something special.

"He liked the other defensive linemen in the class and wanted to compete with the best," said his coach. "I think that's best for him too because I know what kind of kid he is. He will do better against the best. It also didn't hurt that he'd be playing in the ACC and would get to play games at Maryland, Virginia, Boston College, Pitt and other places close to home."

Few prospects in the nation are as prepared to make an early impact at the college level and Goldman is anxious to get on the field and help build Florida State's program into a national championship contender as quickly as possible.
