Raiders long snapper performs baby-gender reveal in most long snapper way possible
Baby-gender reveals might be a bit passé these days, but we’ll tip our caps to how the Oakland Raiders’ long snapper chose to perform his.
Andrew DePaola and his wife, Amy, are expecting a child. Clearly they issued orders to the gynecologist’s office that they didn’t want to know the sex of the baby. That’s because they had a plan in mind.
DePaola would — as one does if one is a long snapper — snap a ball into a tree as part of an elaborate gender-reveal maneuver for all their friends to witness.

The best part might be DePaola admitting how nervous he is. “So much pressure!” an onlooker says, and another adds that it might be “the most important ball of his life.”
DePaola responds: “I am actually shaking!”
It’s cute. And yet he executes the snap to perfection, hitting the tree squarely, just as you’d expect from one of the NFL’s highest-paid snappers.

But wait ... this isn’t a new concept
It didn’t take us long to find out that this is not the world’s first long-snap baby gender reveal. It turns out that Denver Broncos Pro Bowl snapper Casey Kreider did this with his wife back in 2017, almost two years ago to the day. (Hat tip to Yahoo’s Ben Weinrib for digging it up.)
So maybe it takes a little of the originality out of the stunt, whether or not DePaola had seen his rival snapper’s demo. But either way, we’re happy for the expecting family.
