Sarah Burke (Sept. 3, 1982-Jan. 19, 2012)
Considered a pioneer of women's freestyle skiing, Burke led the push for superpipe to be included as an Olympic event in the 2014 Games. She was immensely popular amongst her peers, won four X-Games gold medals and likely would have been the favorite in Sochi. She was seriously injured while training on the superpipe in Park City, Utah, and died nine days later.
