In 1959-60, Twyman and Wilt Chamberlain became the first NBA players to average 30 points in a season. A six-time All-Star, Twyman was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1983. But perhaps his greatest contribution came off the court when he became the legal guardian of former teammate Maurice Stokes, raising funds and helping him learn to communicate after Stokes suffered a paralyzing brain ...

Twyman died of complications from blood cancer. He was 78.
