  • Huge If True: Will Canucks take on Evander Kane?

Last week in this space, we discussed whether the Vancouver Canucks would be able to trade for a scoring winger. At the time, though, the idea that Evander Kane would be the target was a little farfetched. Kane was arrested late last week for allegedly harassing three women, and potentially choking and pulling the hair of one of them.

  • Mike Krzyzewski: Team USA having too much fun, needs to tone it down

Mike Krzyzewski hates fun (even more than he admits). So, the coach wasn’t thrilled after Team USA’s exhibition win over China, which included DeMar DeRozan nearly 360-degree dunking on someone. Marc J. Spears of ESPN: I want to see Team USA make highlight plays. Dunk from the free-throw line. Shoot from halfcourt. Throw behind-the-back passes. Show up weaker competition. So, it’s hard for me to get behind Coach K’s criticism. But I also want to see the Americans win gold medals in the Olympics, and I’ll blame Krzyzewski if they’re not adequately focused. Fair? Not one bit. Doesn’t change what I want, though.

  • 2016 BIG TEN POWER RANKINGS: I have Ohio State 3rd, and I regret it already

At the end of each conference run-through, I take a look at how I perceive the conference's balance of power heading into the season. This is in no way based on schedules, so they are not predictions. This is just how I would rank the teams after writing thousands of words about each of them. When I finished all of the Group of Five conferences, I compiled a full mid-major power rankings list. Now we're into the power conferences; here's the ACC, and here's the Pac-12. Each team's name below links to its full preview. Tier 1 1. Michigan 2. Michigan State 3. Ohio State I've gone back and forth on this constantly. As you see below, all three of these teams have low numbers in returning production.

  • Aroldis Chapman electrifies Wrigley Field in Cubs debut

By the time he struck out Avisail Garcia to wrap up a perfect inning and a Cubs 8-1 win over the White Sox, he’d whipped them into a frenzy.

  • On this date five years ago, Neymar scored the greatest goal of his career

Neymar Jr. is entering his fourth season at Barcelona. He has been nothing short of amazing for the Blaugrana, and all the hype surrounding his signing was more than just justified. Neymar is already one of the five best footballers on Earth, and he still has potential to be even more special. There is no doubt that Neymar has done great things for Barça, but the greatest goal of his career did not happen with the Catalan giants. Not the most important, like the one he scored against Juventus in the Champions League Final. But the greatest, the one that made the world know that Neymar had arrived. It was five years ago to the date, in a Wednesday night at Vila Belmiro. Santos and Flamengo were

  • Giants report to training camp today for physicals and conditioning

The long summer break ends today for the New York Giants as they report to the Quest Diagnostics Training Center for physicals and conditioning. It will be the first summer in 12 years without former head coach Tom Coughlin at the helm. Ben McAdoo is now the head man and he is excited to get cracking. "We started to establish our identity- without pads- but sound, smart and tough, committed to discipline and poise," McAdoo said at the end of minicamp in June. "We know what it looks like now. We had a chance to sit down, we had a chance to define it and lay the foundation for when we do get the pads on." The first training camp session will be held on Friday morning. The team will hold 11 practices

  • Carmelo Anthony predicts Knicks-Bulls on Christmas or opening night

Carmelo Anthony said the Knicks should have gotten a Christmas game last year. In hindsight, the NBA reportedly agreed. So, Anthony expects New York to get a marquee matchup — against the Bulls — on either Christmas or opening night. Chris Herring of The Wall Street Journal: The storylines are overflowing. The Knicks added Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah — two former Bulls — to join Anthony, who strongly considered Chicago in his last free agency. The Bulls answered with a couple big names: Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo. They’ll join Jimmy Butler, whose stature is only growing — just like Kristaps Porzingis in New York. Those are plenty of attention-drawing players, and the league will want to capitalize,

Three years ago, ESPN’s Ron Jaworski cooked up one of the hottest takes of all time, taking the position that quarterback Colin Kaepernick could be one of the best quarterbacks of all time. Jaworski’s opinion somehow became news for his employer, feeding the four-letter network’s engine for several days in August 2013. A year later, Jaworski offered up an even hotter — but far less memorable — take regarding quarterbacks Nick Foles and Russell Wilson. Given a choice between the two, which would he pick? “I’m taking Foles,” Jaworski said. “Not even close. Russell Wilson is just . . . because of that system he is in. Russell Wilson plays with that defense, the best in football. He just managed

  • Bengals' Adam Jones speaks out again about Steelers' playoff win

It’s an agony the Cincinnati Bengals have to live with as they enter training camp Thursday. Linebacker Vontaze Burfict picked up in-game replacement quarterback Landry Jones with 1:43 remaining, Cincinnati up 16-15 in the AFC wild card playoff game in January. Running back Jeremy Hill fumbled with 1:36 remaining, and cornerback Ross Cockrell recovered, giving the Steelers the ball with a chance to pull off a late-game comeback victory. Aided by two personal foul penalties by Bengals’ defenders — the first a vicious shot from Burfict to the head of Antonio Brown, the second a continued and sustained argument with officials, apparently disputing the first call, that led to Adam Jones bumping an official — Chris Boswell capped off a 74-yard, 9-play drive with a 35-yard game-winning field goal.

  • How Nick Foles’ Release Just Made Ryan Fitzpatrick A Nice Chunk Of Change

Nick Foles might be the dumbest man in American, but at least one other NFL quarterback should be thanking him for it. Foles, the Los Angeles Rams quarterback, reportedly was released by the team Wednesday at his request. The 27-year-old was set to make up to $8.75 million this season, per Spotrac, but has been upset since the team selected quarterback Jared Goff with the No. 1 overall selection in the NFL draft earlier this year. Apparently getting paid nearly $9 million to live in L.A. — where it’s 75 and sunny all the time — for a year just wasn’t good enough for the now ex-Ram.
