PKT: More smoke and mirrors from the "I believe in magic" party. Without funding saying blue states can keep the ACA is meaningless. The high risk pools and health care savings accounts have all be used before and failed to bring down cost or provide better coverage. The only way you can have universal coverage and affordable premiums is single-payer which Republicans refuse to acknowledge preferring instead to prop up the for-profit model that is more expensive and less successful than the rest of the world. Like France and Germany and Switzerland we can easily put in place a single-payer system that offers the option of paying for private insurance if you want it just as here there is Medicare and Medicare supplemental insurance. There are a lot of models to choose from and a lot of ways to go but we are condemned to the worst of the worst thanks to an erroneous assumption or outright lie from the right that equates single-payer with "socialized" medicine. It's interesting that the preamble to the Constitution mentions to provide for the "welfare" the citizens and welfare taking its meaning in the context of the times includes health and safety. Logically the Founders saw providing or overseeing the actual physical health of US citizens as a government responsibility. We've been stuck in the box of for-profit healthcare long enough. It's time to bring us into modern times and give citizens the lower cost more effective health care the rest of the civilized world enjoys.
