Dorner took his pickup during his escape attempt. Heltebrake, a ranger who takes care of a Boy Scout camp, was checking the perimeter of the camp for anything out of the ordinary when he saw Dorner emerge from behind some trees. An internal review by the Los Angeles Police Department concluded that rogue ex-officer Christopher Dorner was justifiably fired, a lawyer said on June 5. Dorner, who authorities say boasted that police agencies had no chance of capturing him except on his terms, was killed Feb. 12, 2013 in a fierce gun battle  at a mountain cabin 80 miles east of Los Angeles.
