A-Rod has not accepted the suspension, and an arbitrator will rule later this year, oddly enough allowing the maligned Yankee to play out the rest of the season after returning from injury. If upheld, it would be the longest non-lifetime ban in sports history.
One of the most famous lifetime bans, given to all-time hits leader Pete Rose for the aforementioned activity, doesn't appear on this list of The Top 10 Longest Suspensions in Sports because he received it after retirement.
