After the Olympics competition ended, a few of Team USA's gold medal-winning gymnasts took a well-deserved beach day in Rio. When Simone Biles shared a shot of herself and teammates Madison Kocian and Aly Raisman displaying their strong gymnast abs, a
Billy Bush is opening up about his now-infamous interview with swimmer Ryan Lochte about his fabricated robbery in Rio. Yes, it was an unfortunate thing for us, because it was such a sideshow for the second week of the Olympics," Bush said during a SiriusXM Today Show sit-down. Bush was the first to track down Lochte for an interview after the swimmer's mother, Ileana Lochte, told USA Today that her son and some of his teammates had been held up during a night out in Rio.
John Wall and Bradley Beal feel the love. The Washington Wizards have been an excellent example of that difficulty. General manager Ernie Grunfeld opened this decade by selecting two very promising guards in John Wall (the first-overall pick in 2010) and Bradley Beal (third in 2012), and both have impressed enough to earn max-level contracts as the future leaders of the franchise.
The protracted summer romance between Jimmy Vesey and more than half a dozen teams around the league is over, and it’s not easy to figure out why the winner won. Having enough interest to actually get Vesey? Having a spot to give Vesey to make him think that’s the destination?
Jered Weaver is in the last year of his five-year, $85 million contract with the Angels. He’s also just barely hanging on. To the extent he is succeeding — and he has had his moments — it’s almost all on guile given that his velocity has almost completely abandoned him. Could he hang on a while longer? Probably. Guile aint’ nothing and there are worse pitchers than Weaver, but if he’s going to keep going it will almost certainly be as a year-to-year guy fighting for a job every winter and fighting for a roster spot every spring. Some guys, especially guys who have made their money, may want to retire at that point. Weaver isn’t necessarily ruling it out, but he isn’t making any final decisions
The Los Angeles Dodgers are already the most injured team in the history of baseball. The Dodgers have had a such a bad run with injuries this season that apparently their players aren’t safe anywhere. Josh Reddick hurt his finger when his hand got caught in a door last night while ordering room service.
Norman, who said going from the Carolina Panthers to the Washington Redskins was “like going from a dictatorship to freedom,” had some interesting things to say in an ESPN the Magazine story, via the Washington Post. “Redskins is not offensive to me,” Norman told ESPN.
Texas opens the season September 4th against 10th ranked Notre Dame. Campus Insiders' Ray Crawford spoke with Longhorns' Insider Ted Emrich about the QB battle in Austin and what fans should expect on offense with new offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert.
Kevin Harvick says that what Bristol Motor Speedway did to its track surface to create two lanes of racing should be done at other tracks. Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer, said Monday on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio that what Bristol did is “certainly not the last you’ve seen of that.’’ Bristol treated its lower groove with a substance similar to what is used on the starting area in drag racing to help tires gain grip. NASCAR said resin was then put on the track after Wednesday’s Camping World Truck Series race and Friday’s Xfinity Series race. Previously, running the lower groove at Bristol proved slower than the top groove. With the additional
Apparently mixing gymnastics and football, as she’s recently agreed to go on a double date with Raiders tight end Colton Underwood, and his teammate Andrew East who is married to fellow Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson. Raisman is definitely up to it. Lucky for Underwood, Raisman is scheduled to visit the area within the next month.
Photo: There’s no Olympic medal for most Instagram likes (at least not yet), but if there was, Neymar, a soccer player for Team Brazil, would have dominated. Another Brazilian medal-winner, Nory Mariano, also made the list, with a photo of himself holding the bronze he took home for gymnastics. A photo posted by Simone Biles (@simonebiles) on Aug 16, 2016 at 2:54pm PDT Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world, shared photos of two of his gold medal wins for the 200 and 100 meter runs.
After a few frustrating free agent chase-downs with Kobe Bryant around, and a 2016 offseason without Bryant on board, the Los Angeles Lakers have mostly committed to the idea of a full-on rebuilding project. New, “rookie” head coach Luke Walton is the team’s biggest free agent signing, there won’t be any agent-favoring vet acquisitions like Carlos Boozer and Roy Hibbert to help fill out the roster, and the team seems fully bent on working with the young prospects it has alongside the 2017 NBA draft pick it will hopefully get to keep next spring. Stuck somewhere in the middle of the favors for representatives, the raw prospects to suss out, and the vets to fill out the roster is the curious case of Yi Jianlian.
By punching and bulldozing their way onto the scene just a few short years after their acceptance into the league, the Flyers earned their nickname and thrived on the fear that they put into the hearts and minds of their opponents in the old days. It took them six games to take down the Buffalo Sabres and successfully defend their title in 1975, but it was a Game 3 overtime loss that stands alone in its level of weird. During a stoppage in the first period at Buffalo Memorial Auditorium, the Flyers and Sabres were joined by an unruly fan that was apparently unhappy with its upper level seating and decided to get a closer look at the action.
With the continuing caveat that it is really weird and likely as uncomfortable as hell for all of those involved for this to be playing out so publicly, here is the latest news on the Doc Gooden/Daryl Strawberry/possible cocaine relapse story. From the Daily News: Dwight (Doc) Gooden is insisting publicly that he doesn’t have a drug problem, yet more and more people want to help him — none more significant than the Yankees, who have reached out to say they’ll pay for any treatment he would consider getting. That’s admirable of the Yankees, as is their refusal to comment on it further (the Daily News got this info from Strawberry). The Yankees, of course, gave both Strawberry and Gooden second
With that said, we just can’t think of another way to describe this beautiful slider from Cleveland Indians reliever Andrew Miller. Allow us to set the scene: With the Indians up by one run in the ninth inning against the Oakland Athletics, the club turned to Miller to close things out. It was pretty evident Miller had his good stuff during the outing, striking out the first two hitters he faced on just seven pitches.
If Ronda Rousey is going to return to the UFC in the future, it certainly won’t be at the fighting promotions highly anticipated debut in New York City. UFC president Dana White appeared on the “UFC Unfiltered” podcast to state that the former women’s bantamweight champion would not be fighting at UFC 205 on Nov. 12. “She’s definitely not fighting in New York,” White said.
Last week, the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced an increased reimbursement package for fans who traveled to Canton, Ohio to see the Hall of Fame game, only to have it canceled due to field conditions. Attorney Michael Avenatti, who has hinted at filing a claim that the Hall and the NFL defrauded fans, believes he’s found a smoking gun, so to speak, that the league and Hall officials knew the game wouldn’t be played but let the thousands of fans into the stadium anyway. Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee recorded a podcast the day after the game was supposed to be held, and said, among other things, that “There was a big ‘no tweeting’ policy, like nobody’s allowed to say (expletive)” among instructions given to teams after they were told of the cancellation.
Five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant told CNBC on Monday he'd rather be remembered for his role in jump-starting tech companies than his skills on the court. Bryant has been investing alongside entrepreneur and former Web.com CEO Jeff Stibel for a number of years, but the pair made their partnership a more formal affair on Monday by announcing they are launching a $100 million investment fund called Bryant Stibel. "Playing basketball, the focus is always on winning.
Most NBA fans’ eyes were on Team USA’s gold-medal winning performance in Rio de Janeiro, but for me the most fascinating story of the weekend involved veteran Denver Nuggets forward Wilson Chandler. The 29-year-old decided to do a little deep-sea fishing
Simone Biles had a busy 2016 Summer Olympics, winning four gold medals and one bronze – and even leading Team U.S.A. as the flag-bearer at the very rainy closing ceremonies on Sunday. The 22-year-old women's gymnastics captain caught Biles snoozing on the plane Monday night, teasing her pal in a sweet Instagram post. Miss @simonebiles fell asleep before we took off.
Cleveland Cavaliers’ Lebron James, center, holds up the NBA Championship trophy alongside teammates Kyrie Irving, left, Kevin Love, rear right, J.R. Smith, right, and Tristan Thompson, front, at the airport in Cleveland on June 20, 2016. Hey, remember when LeBron James stepped off the Cleveland Cavaliers’ team plane after his team’s vanquishing of the Golden State Warriors to win the 2015-16 NBA championship wearing a blue T-shirt bearing the image of the Ultimate Warrior?
In a Monday meeting with local media, Montreal Canadiens forward Alexander Radulov did not hide from his past problems. Radulov, who signed a one-year $5.75 million contract with the Habs this summer, noted that he’s older and more mature and that his learning experiences from his younger days could help the Montreal Canadiens reach their Stanley Cup goal. The 30-year-old Radulov has left the league twice for the KHL after two separate tenures with the Nashville Predators.
A week ago, things were looking pretty good for the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles lost five of those six games, and they’re now third in the AL East. The Orioles face the Washington Nationals, their interleague Beltway rivals, on Monday in Yahoo Sports’ MLB Free Game of the Day.
