Tom: I love the way immigrant advocates basket legal immigrants and illegal immigrants in the same basket. That way people against illegal immigrants are against seem to be against all immigrants. We are not. We are against illegal immigrants, not legal immigrants. My great grand parents were legal immigrant from Ireland. They followed the law. Illegal aliens steal citizen jobs, steal our tax dollars, steal our votes, and too often steal our lives. By definition all illegal immigrants are at the very least criminals!
Magic Johnson and the Los Angeles Lakers might not be done wheeling and dealing yet as we move closer to Thursday's NBA trade deadline. While the Purple and Gold accomplished one of their goals in acquiring a 2017 first-round pick in exchange for Lou Williams, the franchise is reportedly looking to move another one of their veteran wing players. According to Arash Markazi of ESPN.com, the Lakers' other goal going into the trade deadline was to find an NBA team that would be willing to take Nick Young off of their hands for just about anything. Even though Young has enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career under Luke Walton, he's averaging 13.8 points per game while shooting 41.3% from beyond
Remember when Butch Jones burst onto the scene and signed those two top-10 recruiting classes back-to-back, in 2014 and 2015? Those times were fun. But as the Vols have yet to win the SEC East under Jones, and his message is growing a bit stale because of it. Tennessee has already slid back down to earth recruiting-wise. Then this happened. Azzanni arrived in Knoxville with Jones in 2013, and he started building the impressive classes “brick by brick,” as the mantra goes. Those bricks seemed pretty strong too. Von Pearson, Marquez North, Preston Williams, Kendrell Scurry, and Josh Malone are all WRs in the top 100 nationally whom Azzanni helped bring to Knoxville. But that level of talent is
Steven Matz and Sean Gilmartin, though, recently went deep-sea fishing, and Matz nearly sent Mets fans into a frenzy by posting a picture of him holding a live bull shark he caught. While the pictures and video may have given fans — and Matz — a scare, they didn’t concern Mets management. Asked if he had talked to Matz about the pictures or video, general manager Sandy Alderson said he was aware that the two had gone fishing, but didn’t have an issue with it.
With an uncertain future in MMA, Ronda Rousey is continuing to pursue opportunities outside of the octagon. The former UFC women’s bantamweight champion has landed another acting role. According to TMZ, Rousey will make a guest appearance on NBC’s “Blindspot
Michigan tight end Devin Asiasi is transferring out of the program, head coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed to the media on Tuesday evening. Rumors had been swirling on the Asiasi front since the end of the regular season, with reports indicating that he would be transferring out of the program to be closer to his family in California. It is a definite blow to the Wolverines, who saw him play a role on offense early on in 2016 as a true freshman and he was expected to see a huge increase in playing time next year with Jake Butt graduating from the program. Asiasi had two catches for 18 yards and one touchdown in his lone season with the program. This story is developing.
The Green Bay Packers were recently reported as a team that could be interested in edge rusher Connor Barwin, but don’t expect the Packers to start sending trade offers to the Philadelphia Eagles. Only if the Eagles release the veteran rusher would Green Bay become a potential landing spot. According to Mark Eckel of NJ.com, the Eagles will likely look to move Barwin before the start of the new league year, with a trade representing one of the possibilities. Eckel mentioned the Packers as one team with potential interest, although he was clearly speculating on the matter. A trade with the Packers should be considered unlikely. Barwin’s current deal is worth over $8 million on the 2017 cap, and

Sammy Sosa is open to a return to the Cubs, but the organization isn’t feeling it. The Chicago Cubs’ World Series run saw a number of franchise icons return to the limelight. Slugging outfielder Sammy Sosa has not returned to Wrigley Field after the two sides experienced a nasty divorce following the 2004 season.
Putting a cap on a West Coast swing that produced one marquee winner after another, Dustin Johnson lapped the field at the Genesis Open at Riviera and vaulted to No. 1 in the World Ranking. What does your top five look like? Shane Bacon, golf analyst, Fox Sports ( @shanebacon ): I’m going to go my top-five in the world currently, with Rory simply landing on the list because, when healthy, he’s a top-two player and, when on the couch, he still doesn’t drop out of the Top 5. The only major move I’d make is to swap out Rory, at least until he returns healthy, for Stenson.
New Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson is largely an enigma as an executive. Since he was brought back to the franchise as an advisor, fans have been left to wonder: Is he the superstar-thirsty media personality from his Twitter account, or the type of patient, thorough executive built for success in the modern NBA? The ball will be up in the air on how Johnson will ultimately fare as the Lakers head honcho for a while, but the early signs are promising for those hoping he’ll help the Lakers execute a patient rebound from their current woes. The Lakers’ first move under Johnson was to flip veteran guard Lou Williams to the Houston Rockets for a first-round pick (and also
Bob Huggins fell to his knees and clutched his chest during a scary moment just before halftime. West Virginia players picked up their coach, got him to the bench and made his job easier by maintaining a comfortable lead the rest of the way Monday night. Jevon Carter had 24 points and Lamont West had a career-high 23, helping the 12th-ranked Mountaineers roll to a 77-62 win over Texas following Huggins' frightening fall.
Candice Wiggins celebrates a win in 2011. The WNBA has historically been the most forward-thinking sports league in America when it comes to gay rights. While the WNBA hasn’t always made the LGBTQ community proud with how it chooses to promote and accommodate its gay players, it’s fair to say that they’ve made meaningful strides.
Feb. 21 (UPI) -- While many UFC fans were focused on the fall of Ronda Rousey, her boyfriend Travis Browne took a beating Sunday in Nova Scotia. Browne had a great first round in UFC Fight Night 105 against Derrick Lewis. Then the Hawaiian turned it on so much that the fight had to be stopped in the second round. Lewis delivered some serious upper body blows to Browne before he fell on his back onto the mat. Lewis then slammed his right fist repeatedly into Browne's skull until he lost consciousness. After the fight, Lewis was asked about how badly he was hurt. "I just got to do a No. 2, that's all," Lewis said on FS1. "It's not really hurting from the kick, I've just got a boo-boo." Lewis delivered
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred is adamant baseball needs to respond to fans’ desires to change the game. PHOENIX – Not even two minutes into his latest state of baseball address, commissioner Rob Manfred, now comfortably into his third season on the job, revealed publicly what for years lurked in boardrooms and offices with windows. As the lead labor lawyer for Major League Baseball, he did what at one point seemed impossible: tipped the imbalance of negotiations, forever in the players’ corner, back to the league.
It seems that almost everything Daniel Jacobs hears about his March 18 opponent, Gennady Golovkin, is that the mauler from Kazakhstan who’s won 23 consecutive fights by knockout is an unbeatable machine. Jacobs, who has already defied a more monstrous challenge, is making a multi-pronged effort this training camp with hopes of toppling the unbeaten, three-belt middleweight champion at Madison Square Garden. Part of it involves expert consultation with unbeaten, three-belt light-heavyweight champion Andre Ward. Part of it summons “The Incredible Hulk.” And some relies on the benefits of nutritionist Chris Algieri, the former champion boxer and Jacobs’ fellow New Yorker. Jacobs (32-1, 29 knockouts),
The team name and logo for the Vegas Golden Knights are displayed on T-Mobile Arena’s video mesh wall after being announced as the name for the Las Vegas NHL franchise at T-Mobile Arena on November 22, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The final payment for the Vegas Golden Knights to give them team full entry into the NHL will reportedly not clear before the upcoming trade deadline.
Even if he hasn’t been gone long, Philip Rivers was back home for a night, so you’ll have to pardon him if that hit him. The quarterback of the Los Angeles Chargers was back in San Diego Tuesday night, to see teammate Nick Hardwick honored at the San Diego Hall of Champions dinner. And though he has a new professional address, it’s clear the bonds he created at the old one run deep with him, as he got emotional as he spoke. “I hope you’ll always see me as a [San Diego Charger],” Rivers said, via Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune. “My time here and my love for San Diego will always be great. I’ll be forever grateful for my time there.” “But,” he went on, “at the same time, I hope the
For most of us, there are very few differences in the way we experience fantasy sports and real sports, at least in the way we interact with the teams involved. Coaches, general managers and team presidents get fired all the time, just like players are traded away, and for those inside the team’s facility those moves — justified or not — hit a little bit differently than just another headline coming across a social media timeline. For Los Angeles Lakers forward Larry Nance, Jr., now-former Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak was the man who took a chance on him as a rookie with a late first-round pick in what was seen by many pundits as a reach at the time. Nance has obviously made such prognostications look foolish with his level of play, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he felt at least somewhat indebted to Kupchak for giving him his first NBA shot.
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick could be called to testify in the Aaron Hernandez double murder trial, according to documents released Wednesday. Belichick is listed among the possible defense witnesses who could be called to the stand. Hernandez, the former Patriots tight end, is already serving a life sentence for the fatal shooting of Oldin Lloyd in 2013. Belichick was listed on the witness list for that trial but was not called to testify. However team owner Robert Kraft was called to the stand. Hernandez is again standing trial after pleading not guilty to the early morning shootings of two men in Boston in 2012. The defense lawyers also may call Hernandez’s former teammate at

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The first starting assignment at the renovated Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium belongs to Myles Jaye. Jaye will start the Detroit Tigers’ exhibition opener against Florida Southern on Thursday (1 p.m.). “It’s a big deal,” Jaye said. “It’s the first game in a new, beautiful park, and it’s a good opportunity for me to get back in a game situation against a college team or whoever it is, just facing live hitters. I’m looking forward to it. It’s a big deal for me.” Jaye posted a 3.95 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 28 combined starts at Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo in 2016. He struck out 135 in 161 2/3 innings. “This spring is going well,” Jaye said. “The hitters have said my changeup
The Redskins quarterback is requiring a franchise tag for his long-term deal. Mike Florio explains why a second franchise tag would mean a lot for Cousins' future earnings.
And with that, we can all go home now. After leading for well-more than the balance of the basketball game, Indiana drops their 5th straight game and 7th in their last 8. Per the KenPom numbers, it’s the worst loss for this team since the Nebraska calamity in mid-December. Peter Jok led all scorers with a massive 35-point outing. Robert Johnson paced Indiana with 19. The Hoosiers now sit ahead of exactly one team in the Big Ten standings — Rutgers. What’d we learn? Indiana shouldn’t be this bad, and it’s hard to conceive why they are. Indiana, without a lottery-level OG Anunoby, wasn’t going to be a great team this season. But they, still, should’ve been a good enough team with decent play from
UCLA student Kevin Wei appears to be only a smidge taller than 5 feet, but that didn’t stop him from challenging Bruins freshman guard Lonzo Ball to a dunk contest. OK, so it was on an 8-foot goal at Pauley Pavilion. If you already have an image of how this ends, you’re probably right. Wei and Ball exchanged dunks, with each defending (air quotations implied) -- resulting in posterizing dunks, one after another. Wei even got a nice jam over Ball, who whiffed with the block. That forced Ball to effectively end Wei’s hopes of somehow coming away an underdog winner in the friendly competition, throwing down an epic windmill jam right in Wei’s face. Thanks to a bystander, there’s video of the whole
