wwguru123: Much better relation with China and Russia is definitely much better for the PH. Moreover, viable relation with the USA is not mutually exclusive. The US really is a progressive sucker for ideals; as long as there is hope, the US will not jettison the PH and will still aid the PH. US military role is rather ineffective and close to useless. The probability of the US starting a war that can kill millions of Asians of many nationalities is virtually zero. The US is just decent and sane enough--yellow peril ended a long time ago. Coupled with the easy wisdom of the Chinese to not start a war, the situation in the SCS likely will be apparent stalemate for a long time, decades. Moreover, this apparent stalemate is like the short-arm of an analog clock, creeping slowly for China's favor. Any claim and any arbitration ruling are fanciful and ethereal. The PH does not want to endure the apparent stalemate while it remains poor and China gets stronger. China will be eager to latch onto this pivotal occurrence and will give substantial economic benefits to the PH in exchange for the PH relinquishing claims. Giving up the ethereal for the concrete is very wise for the PH. What China will give without disputes will differ substantially from what China will give with disputes.
