  • Ben Roethlisberger asks Tom Brady for his jersey and I threw up in my mouth a little

It hurts when our heroes let us down. It just makes you feel empty inside. The video you are about to see of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger might do that to you. Inside the NFL on Showtime had New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady wired up during the Steelers and Patriots and before the game the cameras caught this. Cue the Nancy Kerrigan voice. Whyyy? Of all the players Roethlisberger could want a jersey from, why does it have to be Brady? Was Vontaze Burfict not available? This whole new tradition of midfield post-game jersey swap is fine on some level, but Big Ben crossed a line. The only way Roethlisberger can make this up to his fans is to come back healthy and lead

Sheriff’s Office.

It's the curse of the Billy goat that many cubs fans blame for their set any one year long drought but maybe they just needed a good luck charm. Or to. As a superstitious cubs fan. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact, it's just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt. • Alex Rodriguez is taking his analyst role quite seriously

If you’ve happened to catch any of the coverage of the 2016 postseason on Fox and FS1, you’ve heard former Yankees DH Alex Rodriguez as part of an analyst panel with host Kevin Burkhardt and former major leaguers Pete Rose and Frank Thomas. Rodriguez has drawn rave reviews not just for passing a rather low bar we set for former athletes-turned-commentators, but because he’s adding real insight drawn both from his playing days and from doing research. Indeed, Rodriguez is taking his new job as an analyst quite seriously, Newsday’s Neil Best reports. Bardia Shah-Rais, the VP of production for Fox, said of Rodriguez, “This is not a hobby for him. It’s not a parachute in. He’s invested. If we have

  • Dak Prescott vs. Carson Wentz: Cowboys have the G.O.A.T.; Eagles have an overhyped dweeb

Dak Prescott vs. Carson Wentz. Football fans are going to get to see the two explosive rookie quarterbacks go head-to-head on the national stage.  Wentz -- the No. 2 overall pick in this year's draft -- has quarterbacked his team to a 4-2 record this year. Prescott -- all the way down at pick No. 135 in this year's draft -- has done slightly better guiding Dallas to a 5-1 record this year. There's been some speculation going around trying to figure out who is the better of the two QBs. It's not even close. It's Dak Prescott.  The proof is in the tale of the tape. Welcome to Philly...? • Kyle Schwarber will DH for Cubs in Game 1 of the World Series

The 2016 World Series has its first shocker: Kyle Schwarber is back and will start in Game 1, according to Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon. Schwarber — who tore his ACL and MCL in April — will DH for the Cubs against the Cleveland Indians, a scenario that seemed almost unthinkable just last week when the injured Schwarber was cheering on his teammates from the dugout. Maddon made the announcement on Chicago radio station 670 The Score in the hours before Game 1, before the Cubs lineup was officially announced.

  • Did the Minnesota Vikings trade for a notable offensive lineman?

Fooch’s update: It would appear this is for naught I don’t quite know what to make of this, but Pete Carroll may have said something a bit peculiar during a Wednesday press conference. There was apparently a question about trades, and Carroll said he “say Minnesota made a big move with an offensive lineman.” Here is what one beat writer tweeted about it: It is possible Carroll is BS’ing with the reporters, or he misheard something. I have no real idea, but it is at least something interesting. The Vikings have a need at left tackle, and there have been rumors Joe Staley and Joe Thomas are both on the trade block. Both of their head coaches have denied the rumors, but anything is possible in the

  • Welcome to the Tim Tebow baseball and PR Experience

In the last seven days, I've talked to a handful of Mets insiders, none of whom believe Tim Tebow will be with the team next spring in Port St. Lucie. I've heard several different reasons behind their thinking. But, in the end, everyone agreed that -- if he's still with the organization -- he's more likely to show up in St. Lucie when minor-league camp starts, as opposed to when big leaguers arrive in February. This is good news ... if you ask me. It's nothing against Tebow, who has every right to pursue a career in baseball. It's just, the Mets have real goals, and real business at hand, as they try to right their ship and get back to the World Series. I expect Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom, Noah

  • Don’t look now, but the Red Wings have won five straight

A 26th straight playoff appearance? It seemed, when this season began, that not many were giving the Detroit Red Wings much of a chance to accomplish the feat. Time will tell. Despite their doubters, the Red Wings have now won five straight games, following a pretty uninspiring start with back-to-back losses in Florida to begin the season. Their latest win came Tuesday, as the Red Wings beat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2. (For Carolina, that wraps up a six-game road trip to begin the season.) Dylan Larkin, who had 23 goals as a rookie in 2015-16, finally got his first two goals of this season, scoring twice against the Hurricanes. So far, 11 players on their roster have scored, with Darren Helm

  • Column: Should NHRA get with the times to grow sport?

Drag racing has been one of the biggest motorsport passions of my life. Ever since the first time I went to the now-defunct U.S. 30 Dragstrip in northwest Indiana – with the famous loud and echoing radio liner, “Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, at beautiful U.S. 30 Dragstrip, where the GREAT ONES Runnnnnnn!” – in the early 1970s, I’ve been a big fan of the quarter-mile. (By the way, for those in the Midwest who remember U.S. 30, which closed nearly 30 years ago, efforts are under way to bring it back. But I digress.) As a reporter, I’ve covered drag racing since the early 1980s. I still get as excited today following the sport as I did back then. But … and you probably figured a but was coming. While

  • WATCH: This Real Madrid goal was so good it left James Rodriguez in disbelief

It was a goal that didn't mean much to the result, but when Nacho scored Real Madrid's sixth on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey match against Cultural Leonesa, it made jaws drop and it had James Rodriguez grabbing his head in disbelief. Watch this unbelievable goal in the 7-1 win which coach Zinedine Zidane said was better than his Champions League final strike against Leverkusen in 2002. That's a tremendous goal. Acrobatic and beautiful, and the wild reaction of the players was warranted. But if we are being honest -- it wasn't even close compared to that Zidane goal from 2002. Still to this day, it is probably one of the top three goals I've ever seen. Here it is if you somehow haven't seen it.
