These amazing pictures capture a process called 'sand-washing' at the Xiaolangdi Reservoir in China's Yellow RIver. Water is discharged from the reservoir at 2,600 cubic metres per second to clear up the sediment in the river. Each year, the river rises as 1.6 million tonnes of silt deposit builds up, Sky News reports.
